with the likely demise of setanta there will be a serious lack of boxing on our screens. there should be a boxing only channel only showing big/ish fight ( the fights we want to see) say youd pay a tenner a month or so like with setanta but you were guarennteed to see all the top fights in the year. obviously some months youd only get a couple but then others youd get a few. i for one would deffo be up for paying a tenner a month to watch them and im sure alot of other people would be, there is a market out there i just hope someone steps up.
I would pay for it, but it is only likely they would get about a couple thousand viewers max which would not make a profit, unless they managed to get a star attraction from Britain.
Christ, I started a petition for one months ago. Got about 1,000 signatures. But all I got in return was ****ing negativity (also known as realism).
When did it all go wrong with Sky?They used to show HBO PPV cards regular and non PPV cards aswell. The last one I think was Shane Mosley/Mayorga in September and I can't remember before that. Now if we're lucky enough to get a card from the states it is SBO(Floyd/JMM),on top of Khans bills for £15:-( Also, aren't the likes of Froch and Haye(all Hayemaker fighters for that matter)free agents
It'd be awesome if some boxing channel came up and got deals with: GBP Top Rank Di Bella Don King Universem Sauerland Ahmet Oner Some Japanese promoters (who promote the likes of Hasegawa, Naito, Aoh etc.) Some Mexican promoters Hennessy when his ITV deal expires Hayemaker Gary Hyde (for his 3 Cubans) Gary Shaw Dennis Hobson Brian Peters All a dream, I know
the thing is Ishy alot of them promoters would be viable o[tions for TV companies to get but they dont invest alot in boxing
Rob Palmer seemed to (somehow) have an idea for how much boxing rights cost. I'm sure he said it cost Setanta £50k for the JMM-Diaz rights. I have no idea who his sources are though. He also said the Haymaker deal was for £10-15m.
Would just like to add that any deals with foreign promoters would be 'secondary' deals so would most likely be much cheaper.
