This is encouraging, hopefully more schools do the same, but it also emphasis the need to skill up with more qualified coaches.... http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/more-sport/boxing/2009/08/15/boxing-is-still-a-hit-115875-21598123/
i guess I am the only one who thinks this is a bad idea. truth is for every kid that comes out of a boxing class fit, healthy, more confident, there is going to be another kid thats gonna use everything he jsut learnt to beat the crap out of people. if someone wants to learn how to box, go to a boxing club like most of us have done. theres ways to keep fit where nobody gets hurt.
Some kids dont have access to clubs/can't afford it/have no knowledge of the nearest one etc. Giving them a little taster in school could encourage them. I understand what your saying but I think kids would do that anyway, by learning a bit of discipline and being able to channel their energy in a positive way it can only help in 90% of cases imo.
There's good and bad with most things...especially with boxing there's amateur boxers hitting lads outside clubs because they take there skills outside the ropes but that's a small minority. Boxing can save some kids and better the lives and some will abuse but in end they will flop because they either get smashed to bits or end up being nicked. I like the idea of it going back to schools...if they can engage well with the kids it can be positive and it can only help the sport.
this is great news for the sport, it will create future boxing fans by capturing them while they're young and go a long way for people to see it as a sport then just fighting. People never forget any positive experience with boxing (even women who lose weight in "boxercise" become fans and look at the sport differently) and once you've cought the bug it sticks for life. some university students who box at oxford and cambridge then go on to have a positive view of the sport, some even become friends of it as they go on to take important positions... the positives far out weigh the negatives like others have said i wish they had it when i was in school, inter-school competitions sounds awesome
ok guess i was a bit hasty. if this is done correctly it can be a very good thing. i jsut dont think they will do it right.
Just waiting for some do-gooder to come out now & start saying Boxing in schools is a bad idea, its too violent, etc. Hello, the world we live, there is a great deal worse than Boxing! It no doubt teaches kids respect, discipline, is a form of exercise & teaches them to conduct themselves in a proper manner!
the facts our the second that 1 kid get hurt the whole thing will get scrapped so its a waste of time putting it together.
