    Please don't flatter yourself.

  2. I know cleverly isn't popular but to say he is ranked 20th is just plain wrong

He is widely rated 5th or 6th

    funny u mention burns.

as well as burns has done.

the big disappointment is he didn't fight broner.

not only that he ditched his world title.

had a chance to fight him in february and still didn't fight him.

plenty of problems in boxing still. :-(

but course it's far from over. :bbb

This criticism of boxing dying has been levelled at the Sport since the 1960's.
BNation ran a documentary recently of Heavyweight Billy Walker. In it the promoters and journalists were talking about the demise of the current boxing scene and how it will die in a few years.
The reality is the skill level has fallen and the volume of pro fighter also. But the sport is still one of the largest grossing sports worldwide. Here in the UK thousands watch it weekly and thousands go to hundreds of shows Nationwide. It is big PPV business and is growing in the midst of a world recession.
Its got way too many belts, too many governing bodies and is full of sharks. But it's still the sport of Kings.
As a great man once said, "Rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated..."

Apart from Arreola, I can't remember the last time a fat guy fought for the HW belt. And Arreola would knock the op out no matter how many hours he spent in the gym.

Hmmm you seem young but your right--

Guys like Cleverly claiming champion status,if only people knew the truth bar the hardcore-

If boxing actually went with the time, and went for competition rather than hype then we would just keep it simple stupid (KISS)

    210 + heavyweight

    210 Cruiser

    175 Light-Heavy

    160 Middleweight

    147 Welterweight

    135 Lightweight

    126 Featherweight

    122 Batamweight

Me personally i wouldnt have 122 division, as i feel it still dilutes the competition BUT you have so many old timers, and for them they cant see a guy weighing 120 beating a guy weighing 126...so put that in.

Also along with that have just two belts per division which removes the possibility of a champion hijacking the division by refusing to fight the clear number 1 contender....this happend with F. Patteson and S. Liston.

Also, you could implment a situaton where you cant weigh more than 10 pounds over the limit on fight night etc.

Anyhow the main point is simplicity, good competition, less hype. This though dosent work, promotors all over want to claim they manage a champion-

If boxing was actually ran in far more profesional way we would only really have this-

    210 + heavyweight - W. Klitschko

    210 Cruiser - Vacant

    175 Light-Heavy - A. Ward

    160 Middleweight - S. Martinez

    147 Welterweight - F. Mayweather

    135 Lightweight Vacant/ J.M.Marquez

    126 Featherweight - Vacant ( Best fighter C. John)

    122 Batamweight - Guillermo Rigondeaux

And thats it....less drama, less hype but we would actually see more TRUTH-

I actually reckon if boxing ran like this...you would over a few years get a surge in interest....cruiser division would make more money as guys like Haye, Huck, Jones. Adamek, Afolabi, Cunnigham etc would really go for it-

We techincally only have 6 champs out of 8...cruiser is a mess, Floyd would actually have to fight dangerous prime time fighters.....Alvarez would have to move up...
