That's a problem with the fans, not the fighters. If a fighter loses it shouldn't really matter as long as he gave a good account of himself. It's ****py fans that make fighters/managers take safe(r) fights because they know that a loss = fans calling them a hypejob/exposed/bum and their earning power decreases. If fans didn't care so much about perfect records we'd probably get fighters more willing to test themselves.
A US middleweight called Gene Glover for example, that knocks out every opponent they put up against him and is dead set on unifying the division. And so good that many other middleweights are afraid to fight him, but they have to because he's taking all the belts. That would be so great for boxing.
Boxing was always sh!t though. There was no golden age, it was always corruption and bullsh!t hype and nonsense.
I do agree with that :good Robberies were rife back then too. The mob controlled a lot of the action and fixed a lot of the fights, so we don't know who actually was better in many cases. Many "golden age" HW's would now be smallish Cruisers or LHW's. And many legends became legends because a lot of them had glaring weaknesses, so we got caroussels of beating eatchother.
That's right if Kovalev, Golovkin, the Klitschko brothers, Lomachenko and Usyk were Americans they would call this the golden era of boxing talent. If they were white Americans half of the UFC fanbase would switch to boxing. Let's be honest about this. Americans simply aren't interested in Eastern European fighters or maybe those fighters just aren't promoted correctly. It's probably partly the "fault" of those fighters too because they don't engage in American-style trash talk and WWE type of antics, it's just a different culture, athletes are raised to behave professionally here and they mostly have stoic robotic personas. Probably the best way for those fighters to get noticed is to play the role of a heel and act like Ivan Drago which is something only Kovalev comes close to. Ward Kovalev could be a huge fight for boxing but then again Ward isn't a draw himself. Also, Kovalev doesn't talk trash or act as a heel if the opponent doesn't disrespect him first so it will be a boring build up. And obviously it's a big question if this fight ever happens at all.
I agree. It's frustrating. And what's worse is I'm seeing more and more fans defend and have the same mind set.
