Step into my office bumlovkin, Danny Fake-obs and BUmnelo Alvarez fans...

the 160 pound weight division actually has an opporutuniy to be somewhat exciting with the interesting trio of Canelo - danny jacobs - Genady golovkin. The problem is none of these guys seem to be interested in fighting one another. Before youre hating ass says _____ is ducking ______ let's break down the business of boxing.

I'll make it very quick and easy for you guys.

    Danny Jacobs Last 2 purses
    Jacobs 1.5 mil - Quillin 1.5 mil
    Jacobs 550k - Mora 225k

    GGG Last 3 purses
    GGG 2 mil - wade 500k
    GGG 2 mil - Lemuiex 1.5 mil
    GGG 1.5 mil - Monroe 100k

Canelo Last 3 Purses (including Khan)
Canelo 10 mil - Khan 6 (not including PPV splits etc)
    Canelo 5 mil - Cotto 15 Mil
    Canelo 3.5 - Kirland 1.5

so now that all the financials are revealed. I think it's very easy to see why any accusations of ducking or anyone being a coward can quickly be dispelled

Danny Jacobs makes great money with PBC. He makes very similar money to a GGG opponent except fighting fights that he would most likely win and theyre on home territory (barclays center brooklyn). PBC has no problems giving Jacobs good money to fight lesser guys teh same way HBO does for GGG

GGG makes great money with HBO. Judging on GGG's opponent purse history, it doesn't appear that HBO has any interest in exceeding 4 million dollars for a GGG fight unless it's vs canelo. If this is the case the most money someone like Jacobs could see vs GGG is 1.5 - 2 million assuming GGG agrees to tthat type of split. It's still a stupid deal for jacobs becuase he would be fighting an away game and be getting similar money to what he gets on PBC

Canelo is the last piece of this puzzle. He trumps both guys purses and he's also carrying the weight as the CLEAR CUT A-side. In fact canelo is the biggest A-side in boxing right now. He holds the highest selling PPV outside of pacquiao or floyd and also holds the highest viewed non PPV fight HBO has telecast since barrea vs morales ( i think). A GGG fight simply doesn't make sense for canelo unless GGG is willing to accept ALL negotiations because Canelo can make BIG TIME MONEY without having to be the under dog vs GGG. Unless GGG can make it worth Canelos while ( a 75-25 split at a catch weight) the fight simply doesn't make CENTS (yes... not sense) for canelo

all in all the key take away is this.

Jacobs fighting GGG on HBO doesn't make senes because he makes the same money on PBC (roughly) fighting way easier fighters in his own citty
GGG will never fight on PBC
Canelo vs GGG doesn't make senes because Canelo makes way better money than GGG fighting lesser opponents and GGG realistically brings nothing to the table canelo hasn't seen already besides an extremely difficult fight.

I write all this to show you why nobdoy is duckign anyone. The economics of boxing are preventing the match ups the fans want to see. Before you hate on any of these 3 guys visit this thread and get a quick education on the business

You're just stating what everyone already knows.

Simple fact is that the A-side cannot force a catch weight onto a mandatory. Golovkin isn't asking for anything else. In fact, saying 160 or nothing isn't asking Canelo to do anything. Canelo is the one asking 155 and as his right to do so, Golovkin is responding in kind.

Of course there's going to be that one guy who talks about how sanctioning bodies are corrupt and that their rules don't matter with Canelo and then try to spin it into making GGG look like the bad guy. But the fact is is that if you support Canelo then you support corruption.

Canelo can ask for whatever he wants honestly.... Canelo is the CLEAR CUT richest man in boxing not named pacquiao or cotto. If you don't want to obide by his rules someone else will step up.

Pacquiao bent the rules with cotto
floyd bent the rules with canelo
ray leonard bent the rules with hagler
RJJ bent the rules with Tito
Jermain Taylor and kelly pavlik had a catch weight for their 2nd fight
    Hopkins-DLH 158 lbs
    Whitaker-Chavez 145 lbs
    Meldrick Taylor-Terry Norris 150.5 lbs
    Hearns-Leonard II 163 lbs
    DLH-Forbes 150 lbs
    Gatti-Ward I, II, III 142 lbs everytime
    Hopkins-Winky Wright 170 lbs
    Hopkins-Pavlik 170 lbs

the list goes on and is probably deeper than both me and you realize... ultimately GGG has no leverage in demanding that the fight happens at 160 or doesn't happen at all.

GGG said "give me my belt!", which is fine. But what he doesn't realize is that he is not fighting for the belt against Canelo, he is fighting for the star status. If he doesn't accept Canelo's demands, Canelo can simply vacate the belt and GGG will be in the same position he is now, except making less money because of the new sanctioning fees. Many people, including myself, already consider him the no.1 in the division, so another belt isn't going to change that.

This is actually a good post, it might trigger the Golovkin fans though.

exactly... good examples of fighters making it worth while to battle for another fighters name are.

Martin vs Joshua - Martin got 4 million and I think joshua only got 1.5-2 mil
Cotto vs Canelo - Cotto got 15 million and Canelo got 5 million. No real losers here
DLH vs Pacquiao - ODLH got 20 million and Pacquiao only got 6 million
BHOP vs ODLH = 30 mil ODLH & 10 Mil to BHOP

Deals can be made but there's a price to pay for the better fighter trying to take the bigger name fighters status. Like you said unless GGG is willing to agree to catchweight and 75-25 it's probably not going to happen. So far GGG has been vocal in NOT AGREEING.

Given pbcs lower purses now and Nelsons willingness to talk to Harmon. I think we'll see Harmon fighters against ggg more often

:D Given this post the benefit of the doubt...

it does offer reasoning for GGG's goal to capture all the Middle Weight Championship belts.

 The Joker in the deck... is the signed MANDATORY AGREEMENT forcing O$CAR & Canelo to either accept fighting GGG for the MIDDLEWEIGHT BELT, or surrendering the belt to the WBC.

    :think

Wrong, ggg cares ONLY for the belts so canelo vacating doesn't matter to ggg. He wants the wbc belt for which he's the current mandatory. Doesn't matter at all who ggg has to smash to get it.

Ggg makes way more out of the ring than in it. Massive endorsement deals that keep growing. He wants ALL the mw belts while matching/breaking hops mw defense record.

The only time $$$ matters is draining for fmj or going up for the right type of $$$.

    :good BINGO !!!

:D Once GGG has all the belts he controls the middleweight division !!!

Your remark on the "MASSIVE ENDORSEMENT DEALS" is accurate..

that's where the "REAL MONEY" is.

    ;)

Fans don't care about that bull****. It's all excuses. Stop justifying a duck. A fighter should aspire for greatness. You can't name an opponent that would be a greater win for either Jacobs or Canelo than GGG.

If that s true then how did Mayweather become the highest paid athlete in sports with zero endorsements?:think

Not saying it can't pay the bills because Marshawn Lynch retired and saved all of his NFL salary and lived on endorsement money alone. But how much does Jordan pay?

GGG vs Canelo is the best fight in boxing. Everyone knows that, including the thread starter. As a fan, why you don't want that fight means you're not a fan.

If you're worried about the safety of these two fighters, that's understandable, but in that case, you shouldn't call yourself a fan of the sport.

Honestly, Canelo should just retire. He's also a hypocrite. He has no problem beating the hell out of old man Cotto or skinny Khan, but despite his size, he's scared to fight anyone that can hit him back.

This is the same Canelo that ran away from Mayweather of all people.
