Our organization Co2 Bambu manufactures bamboo based, low cost eco-housing solutions in Nicaragua. In 2011, we were selected to build 84 houses in the indigenous communities that surround the municipality of Rosita (a community that suffers from 85% unemployment and was devastated by hurricane Felix in 2007). During this time, we encountered a disheartening trend amongst the indigenous communities youth and a proclivity towards the use of drugs, which obviously has a devastating impact on the development of these communities. Technically our contract only required us to construct houses for the Mayagna people who live in these communities. However after multiple discussions with the elders (i.e. leaders) of the community, we have agreed to help mitigate the challenges of this economically impoverished community through the execution of a sports based program, more specifically a boxing program. We have already agreed in principle with Pugilist Boxing Gym, a German boxing organization with affiliates all over the United States, to donate boxing equipment. However, we still need to secure more donations of boxing equipment (gloves, punching bags, sparring gloves etc.) despite whatever its condition may be. Or we need someone to finance the cost of shipping a 20Ft. crate from Miami to Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua. The cost is $2,500. I would welcome any and all intellectual, social, financial donations or ideas as support for this program. I have attached a short documentary (http://co2bambu.weebly.com/film.html) that was made by a Nicaraguan filmmaker about our companys housing activities, to provide context for this request. Any help would be extremely appreciated by not only me, but about 100 Nicaraguan kids who want to learn to box.
