Cotto would actually outbox Quillin for awhile, but sooner or later he'd gas out like he usually does (especially with the extra weight at 160), and then Quillin would catch up to him and probably knock his head off with a left hook. Quillin's boxing skills aren't anything to write home about, and he doesn't have great speed, stamina, defense, or combinations, but he's a big dude for the weight, hits hard, and has decent timing and accuracy. That'd be more than enough to catch a blown-up shopworn Cotto at 160.

Cotto really needs to move back to 147 rather than up to 160.

Stylistically you have a point, trout was a different fight.. Cotto was supposed to be the aggressor to win! but with quillin he can box him all night but the size and power would catch up to him!

Ortiz should go to WW, he can fight Ortiz, Thurman, guerrero, things like that... now fight bigger guys... fight guys your own size and don't be lazy train hard and you can make 147 healthy

If it happens I don't see this going past 6 rounds with Quillin winning. Cotto may not be the greatest boxer in the world. He has been an over acheiver though.

Cotto trying to chase legacy too.

He'll be the only Rican to win titles in four weight classes and the second Rican (after Tito) to win a major middleweight title if he gets past Quillin.

    Not too shabby. :smoke

Not only has he won titles in 3 weigh classes, he has been the man to beat at 3 weight classes. :deal

Cotto can have 50-50 fights/or win against guys like Molina, Smith, Kirkland, Angulo, Bundrage, Martirosyan, and even Trout. He can also make 147 pounders like Broner, Ortiz, Guerrero, Abregu, Alexander, come up to a catchweight. He fought Margarito at a CW so I don't see why he can't fight WW's at a catchweight. There's also a bit tougher fight with Lara, but he has a much better chance at beating Lara than Quillin.

Really, a fight with Quillin is unnecessary. It's not like he's going to win, in fact I don't give him a chance in hell to win. Too small, too short and stylistically it's just not a good fight at all. I can't imagine the money isn't all that great either. There's fighters like Chavez Jr who would get him more money.

He's not being used. He can decline these fights and fight more even match up's. It appears that Haymon or GBP is offering Cotto a hell of a lot of money to fight these Haymon fighters. If he fights Quillin, that would be 3 Haymon fighters in a row.

Trout was not a huge underdog, it was seen as a close fight in betting standards. He was +240, hardly anything to go crazy for.

Still Trout was supposed to be a stepping stone to Alvarez/rematch with Floyd.

Bad match up and I doubt it happens. Cotto isn't exactly a big jr middle and if he moves to 160 and faces any top guy there he gets beat.

I think Cotto faces someone at a Smith or Bundrage level, picks up a win, and try to face the Mayweather-Alvarez winner next year.

Are posters seriously blaming Quillin if he fights Cotto?

Cotto is a big name to have on your resume, and will surely bring in bucks in New York, where both fighters are located.

Cotto will not take this fight, thats for sure.

Not really, Quillin was fighting at 168 not so long ago and chose to target Martinez at 160. Plus Cotto is a small jr middleweight, so no i don't feel like Golovkin fighting a bigger looking Rosado (though being 154 moving up) is comparable to a former super middleweight fighting a small 154 pounder.
