What absolute disgrace, a Macklin rematch gives 100 more sense, than this piece of ****. Chavez got embarrassed for 11 rounds and yet people acting like he won the event... What is going on? :admin
I think the only people hoping for a rematch is HBO because the fight grossed twice as much as the Alvarez fight at the same time on another channel. The fighters are both strong draws and good for ratings. From the look of things, Chavez only fought for a minute and a half of the last round, while Martinez schooled him for 11 and swept the judges' score cards. That kind of beat down doesn't warrant a rematch, unless you are a die hard Chavez fan who bought into all the hype. In a rematch, Chavez could only improve over his terrible performance. He's little more than a punching bag for Sergio at this point, but if he learns from this fight and lets his hands go without waiting to get set, if he presses forward with some good lunges like his father advised on 24/7, he'd do much better. But rematches should only be reserved for good close fights that could have gone either way. Martinez needs to fight Mayweather, Cotto, or Golovkin next. He's 37 and doesn't have the time to give unlimited rematches to every tomato can he beats.
It made money, it was action packed. There will be a trilogy. Martinez will be 40 by the time of the last one so Jr may actually beat him.
Agreed.... not all that interested in a rematch. Bring on GGG, Geale, Canelo, Cotto or Mayweather Theres so many fighters out there for Martinez that a rematch with JR is seriously, and I mean seriously, a waste of the little time he has left.
