Why is it that Boxing still remains one of the only sports in the world where the best do not neccessarily face the best to decide the greatest? It is the equivalent in football terms of Manchester United never playing Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea and instead deciding to face only mid table teams every week ...... As fight fans we can all see that Mayweather should face Cotto, Calzaghe should face Pavlik etc ... instead what do we get? Mayweather v De La Hoya again and Calzaghe fighting past it former champions! Yes I can see it is all about promoters, TV rights, money etc as it always has been but that still cheats the fans who keep the sport alive!

Pavlik would become another Lacy if he beat him anyway. People would just say he was ''over-hyped'' the same way as they now dismiss the Lacy destruction.

Like most sports of today - and anything else for that matter, it about what gives money.

You may think that DLH-PBF or Hopkins-Calzaghe were unwarrented fights, but they had alot of attention.

Same thing in football - the UEFA and FIFA are so corrupt that they make sure that the big countries have increased chances to go through to the next round, and makes sure that the hosting countries get at least to quarterfinals in WC. The seedings are fixed, the draws ditto, and the referees favors the popular/big teams. Need I mention that those with the biggest wallets in football have increased chances of success? We should learn from the Americans how they handle ie Icehockey with a earnings roof, and the draftings...

football players are paid yearly. they'll be paid equally if they are fighting a bad team or a good team. in boxing it is not the same. you get paid per fight. so if you want to earn more, you'll fight opponents with a good risk-reward ratio.

in tennis, of course you'd want to fight the very best because that would necessarily eman that you are in the latter stages of the tournament and this will eman more money for you.

i think you are comparing apples to oranges bro. these are two very different things
