That was in Brixton you idiot. A minute part of London with a densely populated area of Afro Caribbean people.

4 miles away in Knightsbridge, him and his clingon's went unnoticed. The same occurred when they took him to the lower working class boroughs of any city in Britain, but when he was taken outside of those very small, highly over crowded areas, he was ignored.

It may surprise you to learn that for all it's faults Britain is not a little island full of people living hand to mouth in over crowded slums.

That unfortunately applies to certain parts of it, mostly inner cities.

I can almost guarantee you that of 70 million Britons, at least 45 million of them will neither know or care who the fuk Tyson is, but they will know who Ali and Mandela are.

Nothing could be more corny or cringe worthy than your rubbish about being superior due to being Murican

Tell that to the Taliban, who are enjoying doing to you what the Vietnamese did. Kick your sorry asses all the way back to poxy Murica.:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

The Brits tried in the 1800's, the Russians had a go recently, but still you stoopid Yanks being as dumb as a box of frogs had to go charging in all bluster and no fukking brains, just to get embarrassed, AGAIN.

Sensible post. The underlined just needs to be implanted into the minds of Tysons more rabid fans, who labour under the misguided belief their boy is up there with Pope's Mandela, and Ali. He isn't. Truth be told he probably isn't even 2nd tier.

What you will get however is the WORLDS boxing fans ( 250 million people perhaps ) debating whether or not he would have beaten any Heavyweight before or since at his best.

Not the same thing at all.

In all fairness Tyson was extremely well known worldwide in the 80's he simply exploded onto the scene.
Non boxing people knew him and I think it's fair to say he was probably the most famous sportsman on the planet.
There's no comparison with that of Ali though, who was simply the most famous PERSON on the planet, end of.
Our younger fans will certainly get how famous he is when he eventually passes away.
Even now nearly 35 years after his last fight it will be headline news and the leader on all news bulletins, you can guarantee that.

maybe, I certainly like pele more than ali on a personality level.

pele is benefitting from the relatively recent explosion in soccer of course.

Not sure he was as popular as he was well known. And Jordan in his prime was more famous, he may literally have been the most famous person in the world.

Tyson was, however, more well known than almost any fighter in history. Ali certainly, but he was in that league.

I see many people saying he was the most popular athlete on the planet. Is everyone forgetting boxing has been on the decline for the last 30 years? Is everyone forgetting as world sports Basketball and Soccer/Football has been on a sharp incline?

I'm going to guess the biggest Stars in sports in the 80's globally were Jordan/Maradona. Tyson was popular in America and Western Europe.
