I know there will be division in some that hate MMA, some that don't find it interesting, or some that find it entertaining. Personally, I enjoy when the fighters go toe to toe but all that tying up is annoying.
I sometimes watch it if I am flipping through the channels and the fight is about to start, but I am not a fan of it really. Some fights are entertaining though. Many of those MMA guys were the guys when we were young who fought everyday after school. But most of those guys would not stand a chance in boxing.
I like it, I'm a fan of both sports:good I just wish MMA can show more free fights instead of having all these PPv fights. Some of the PPv fights aint even PPv material. They need to team up with HBO and show some big fights in HBO instead of having PPV all the time.
I started watching the first UFC PPVs that were available on TV. Jones Intercable started with UFC 4. The lot of mma fans that say they were watching the UFCs on PPV since UFC 1 are lying. Very very very few cable providers even started carrying it until 5. Jones Intercable was ahead of the curve by starting with 4. And, even by UFC 3, martial arts magazines still didn't really know what to make of it. Karate mag broke the UFC into 2 main styles: Grabbers/Throwers & Strikers. Even after those 1st 3 UFCs alot of people had no idea what it was about, people in the martial arts industry. From 1999-2002 UFC threw alot of money at aggressive campaigning. Bringing aboard Carmen Electra to help increase the venue's viability. But it was a complete failure. Fights in that era were depressingly boring. Straight grapplers dominated, the term "lay and pray" started to get used. Heavy hitters like Eugene Jackson, Laverne Clark many times would find themselves being laid on by a grappler who had no intention of actually fighting, but snuggling their way to a UD. Doubt this happened? Watch the snore-fest that was pro boxer Yuri Vaulin v hyped BJJ superstar Joe Moreira. UD by excessive cuddling. Oddly enough Lavern Clark had some success. A shitty pro boxer that had a bit more success at mma than he did boxing. UFC events were painful to watch at that time. Annoyed with the **** poor events and shocked at the fanbase the UFC seemed intent on wooing with their "The Ultimate Fighter" (sometime in 2005) I jumped ship. I don't really care for the sport anymore. Anything that seems more intent on patting itself on its back than anything else really doesn't need my support. Arrogant attitudes of fighters, commentators that verbally beat off the sport during any match (who seemed to have no critical bone in their body), and a UFC that was very intent on accumulating WWE fans lead to me loosing that hint of interest I still had.
It's allright. It's fighting when boxing isn't on. I'd never get a PPV on my own or anything but I'll go to a bar to watch.
