In the early seasons of TUF, they actually took the best fighters they could find. The talented free agents all have jobs now, so we're getting what's left over.

Well, in all honesty those talented free agents would be better off going to TUF because they'd get paid a lot more. 5gs for a win? Then you get a fat check if you win the show plus a contract? Can't beat it.

Since this thread has a lot of comparison's between boxing and MMA, I have a question.

What is up with everyone calling on Hatton to retire? He has only ever lost 2 fights and both were to the pound for pound best in the sport. Can you imagine, say, a LHW MMA fighter losing to Fedor and then losing to Anderson Silva and then everyone calls for him to retire?

Please. UFCs goal is to feed their young prospects a few gimme fights.

the best MMA'er in Fedor got fed Hong Man Choi, Zulu, an undersized Matt Lindland. Its all the same.

In boxing, you give a young prospect a fighter hes not ready for it could ruin his career, both mentally and physically. Its happened numerous times, there is a reason behind what they do. They gave Pavlik southpaws, punchers, boxers, brawlers, in-fighters, speedsters and thats why when he stepped up to fight Zertuche he was prepared, when he stepped up to fight Miranda he was prepared, when he stepped up and fight Taylor he was prepared.

I agree some boxers are moved along slowly, but dont act like the same thing doesnt happen in MMA. There are fighters in the UFC who are under contract just to make their young fighters look good.

You clearly misunderstood what I was saying. In boxing, if you arent good its very hard to make it look like a competitive fight. You are pretty much exposed once the bell rings.

    MMA is different.

I think Hatton is still the man at 140. Or at least one of the best at that weight.

However, you cant ignore what happened last night. The way Hatton fights just does not result in a long career. Hes been in some very tough, grueling fights. And Hattons time fighting mega fights are pretty much done. He just cannot compete with the elite. Hatton is a good fighter, an elite 140 but fighting the likes of Mayweather, Pacquiao or a Mosley, Cotto even JMM would not end well for Hatton.

And being KO'd by Mayweather than being knocked down 3 times and ultimately KO'd against Pacquiao is not good for ones health. Hattons punch resistance just isnt the same as it once was.

People who call for Hatton to retire arent in the wrong at all. They just want a fighter to call it quits so he can have his health for the rest of his life.
