Has anyone else attempted to watch one of these "Fox Sports Net" cards in areas where FSN is not included in the Comcast cable channel lineup?

If you have, you've no doubt noticed an annoying trend. Me too. It's really annoying.

Case in point: the Victor Ortiz card tomorrow night. Multiple sources confirm the fight is taking place Thursday 2/25/2010 and being broadcast on Fox Sports Net.

That's great for people who actually have FSN.

For those who don't, but who subscribe to Comcast cable - we have something called Comcast Sports Net. CSN and FSN are no relation from a business standpoint despite the similar names, but to make matters confusing a lot of the national programming that we miss from FSN is picked up by CSN. This includes their boxing broadcasts.

However...rather than show them live like almost any other sporting event (and like virtually every other station that televises boxing)...they show the fights on 24 hour delay.

That's right. Exactly 24 hours later.

My CSN channel lineup here in New England has nothing to do with boxing tomorrow night...but Friday at exactly 8pm, there it is - Victor Ortiz vs. Hector Alatorre.

The same thing happened with Shumenov vs. Campillo. It was first broadcast not live but exactly 24 hours after it took place.

WTF is the point of even showing it?

Boxing fans like to be absorbed by the drama of what they're watching. Sometimes you can't avoid knowing the result of a fight you haven't seen before catching a replay, that comes with the territory...but this isn't a "replay". They show random filler crap while the live event is happening rather than simulcast with FSN, and then 24 hours later they show the fight once you've had a whole day to read spoilers and lose your impulse to watch? :blood

    It's bull****.

    I'm writing to CSN.

So should you, if you live in an area where FSN is not available in your cable listings. Or even if you don't. Boxing fraternity, assemble!

This is my local chapter of CSN: http://www.csnne.com/pages/contact_us

You can find yours here: www.comcastsportsnet.com/

    Here's my submission:

    "To whom it may concern,

Please note what appears to be a chronic programming error. All the boxing broadcasts on the channel (carried in other regions by Fox Sports Net) appear to be on a 24 hour delay rather than in live simulcast with FSN.

IE, tomorrow night 2/25/2010 there is a live broadcast of Victor Ortiz vs. Hector Alatorre on Fox Sports at 11pm EST. However, the Comcast New England programming schedule for Comcast Sports Net (under both call signs 048 for standard def and 852 for CSNHD) show completely different programming. At 11pm EST it is "Sports Net Central", which is syndicated news and analysis, and at 11:30 PM it is live College Basketball coverage of Oregon State at UCLA.

Victor Ortiz vs. Hector Alatorre appears on CSN's programming lineup 21 hours late, on Friday 2/26/2010 at 8pm EST.

Now, if this were a one-time conflict it would stand to reason that live coverage of a popular sport like college basketball might pre-empt live coverage of a less in-demand sport simulcast from another provider. This is not the first time this has happened, however. On January 29th there was a broadcast on Fox Sports Net of Beibut Shumenov vs. Gabriel Campillo. This was not shown on CSN until 24 hours after the event on January 30th.

Is this an intentional delay or a programming error or oversight? If intentional, I would like to stress that there is a dedicated TV audience for boxing, and it may serve the network to promote the fact that it carries these events in spite of not being "original" programming. I would also like to point out that a large part of the viewing experience for a boxing audience is the drama of watching the event live. This is greatly impeded by having fights broadcast an entire day late.

That boxing is shown on CSN is greatly appreciated. That it is not live is extremely frustrating.

    Thank you."

Everybody, go, paraphrase! (if you all copy/paste they'll think it's just one crazy guy and ignore it )
