I have no friends that are as much a boxing fan as i am, the mostly know guys like pac and may, some dont even know who Cotto is:-(. I was wondering about you guys. How many hard core boxing fans are you friends with?
My dad and some of mine and his friends are boxing fans, but mostly when it involves Mexican fighters or the likes of Pacquiao, Mayweather and Mosley. I would say im the only "hardcore" boxing fan around here where i live tho.
Only friends with one hardcore boxing fan. He posts on this forum as bballchump11. I don't know him in real life. I've talked to people who thought Cotto was Mexican and those who didn't know Mosley had a fight after losing to Floyd.:rofl:roflatsch
It's crazy how everyone will stop what they're doing to watch if a fight happens to break out, but the number of boxing fans are limited.
I remember sum fat broad telling me how pac was going to fight that bald mexican w the tattoos. Or one of my older friends saying "pac is a up and coming young cat with hunger"atsch after the Clottey fight.
None, that's why I joined ESB. My dad grew up in the Leonard/Hearns/Duran times so he knows them and would know of Terry Norris but he's lost if I say any guys nowadays like Martinez. He surprised me when he knew of Dawson but that was it lol. I have a friend but he's casual and more into basketball than boxing which is good for me because we still can talk about boxing somewhat. I've never met someone that I know that's as passionate about boxing & learning it than I am. It makes me sad to see some fanboys and/or haters here because they're missing out on other fighters that deserve the needed, positive attention. They're also missing out on great fights that have happened in the past(sometimes fights that happened VERY long ago). I am a fan of some boxers but I'm more a fan of this sport. Boxing doesn't revolve around certain boxers it moves on though greats/very good fighters will never be forgotten(maybe not brought up much like Luis Rodriguez & Joey Giardello but never purely forgotten).
My grandfather. He saw Sugar Ray Robinson as a kid and shook hands with Primo Carnera. He boxed in the navy. I wish I were a 1/5 that badass.
I turn my friends into boxing fans by hyping up fights and making big fights into events. You have to educate people in order to get them to give a ****.
One hard core close friend. Some hard core friends who i dont see all that much. Some casual close friends.
Probably only have one friend who knows more than the big names, but even I can't have a deep conversation about boxing with him unless it involves the name Pacquiao. I have enough friends who would be willing to watch more boxing but due to the time difference, live big PPV events are on at like Sunday 11am which makes it hard to motivate them outta the door. Also alot of my friends don't know squat and I kid you not, cannot tell the difference between boxing and UFC. Other than that, Dad used to box in the navy and watched boxing until the 80s so occassionally talk about historical fights. Again, my closest uncle on my filipino side used to watch alot of boxing up until the 80s but has since lost interest.
Im alone, I got one friend who is a boxer yet doesnt know much about the history of the sport yet he lectures me because he thinks I dont get what he means from a technical point of view. He loves cotto and admires mayweather, so we actually have good boxing conversations. I sometimes talk with my father about it but nostalgia always catches up and Ali is the goat in his eyes. So when he finally decided to watch a fight with me it was wlad vs chamberspatsch) so I had to hear 100 times how ali ands tyson would have schooled this coward. When I show pac and may its that they cant compare to leonard and duran. I get it but its not as bad as he pictures it. So im basically alone on boxing and thats why I post here.
Damn this poll is depressing. I live this **** man. Most of my friends are into boxing. Every other weekend I go to amateur fights. Train on and off. Always support my local boxing club in sparrings or bouts. Boxing is my ****ing life. I live and breath this sport. I think about boxing more than I do about *****....sad I know, but true.
