Just tried to watch the Jake Gyllenhall boxing movie Southpaw ,its total cack.If you haven't seen it ,don't bother, ham acting and rubbish realism ,[pouring water on cut eyes in the corner etc] .I've given up half way through.
Thought the movie looked bad... Honestly most boxing movies don't do it for me at all. Because their not about BOXING. The boxing is just a backdrop/metaphor for other issues in their life typically... I honestly have to say the only boxing movie I want to see is "Great White Hype", I feel like it actually explores something about boxing and is about boxing before anything else. Has anyone seen that movie?
Story has been done over and over. Fall from grace, picks himself up again blah blah blah. Cinderella Man is still my favourite boxing film
when the movie ended I was like"did they really named that movie southpaw because he lands one punch in southpaw at the end of the movie wtf???"
Holywood churns out that kind of garbage on an industrial scale. I rarely bother watching movies anymore these days never mind any of that unbearably corny and cringeworthy Murican tripe. Regarding boxing movies. They're usually incredibly corny. I can barely make it halfway through the trailers without feeling nauseous, let alone the actual film. Nine times out of ten I know exactly what's going to happen before it happens. Seen it all thousands of times before. Boring. Raging Bull is absolutely amazing and there is a handful old of black and white ones I like too. Someone Up There Likes Me is good, IIRC. The Rocky films are good fun but I enjoyed them more peering through child eyes.
