Boxing is good in streetfights, it's decently effective against all style. Well rounded up pretty much. You'd better learn some ground work tho.
jiu-jitsu is good for self defence, wing chun, krav maga but boxing is also good too for sure, it all depends on who your fighting and what their fighting style is. if your fighting a vicious loose cannon type fighter who will clinch you and try and bite your nose off then its more effective to be able to know how to grapple and be effective in take downs so you can then keep him grounded with whatever means nessecary. if your fighting a total dope who's got no type of fighting brain whatsoever and easy to work out then just poleaxe them with shots and if your fighting a big muscular person who will try and squeeze you till your blue and then chuck you on the floor and batter you will your trying to regain your breath then its safer to box this person and stay at range, providing you yourself are actually heavy enough to stun your opponent. "street fight" questions are so tricky because really and truly there is so many factors. weight, height, build, peoples mindstate, what they're going through and might try and take out on you as a release, for me before you think about any forms of self defence you need to be actually confident enough in the brain to use it first otherwise there is no point fighting. to quote del boy, for me in street fights its "who dares wins", you need the utmost preparation in the mind otherwise much like in any fight you could get really badly hurt. remember "gym fighters" people who look great on the bags but get poleaxed in sparring and then they realize there not the man they fought they were when there battering the pads and bags, its the same anywhere else, nothing is effective if your not confident in the mind, if your not in the mindstate ready to hang in there and fight somebody, it doesn't matter how long you've been training in anything, your mind is what helps you apply what you know too its fullest form
Effective only if you have the heart, speed, power and street iq then it's deadly.End a fight with 1 shot, it's ovah red rover.Goodnight IRENE.
What? You do realize there's various forms of Krav Maga for different populations i.e. military, security, civilian? Each form varies in aggressiveness and damage caused to an attacker.
I can't see how it wouldn't be useful, maybe not the end all form of fighting for self defense but knowing how to throw a proper punch and use your feet will go a long way for sure. I mean, if your goal is only self defense then maybe it's not the best choice but if you enjoy boxing and you want to learn some self defense on the side then it's excellent.
I've been in plenty of street fights and I can tell you that the only time they go to the ground is with people who don't know how to use their hands or against someone with a jiu jitsu or Wrestling background but wrestlers dont know how to use their hands so they always go for the take down which leaves them open to uppercuts and hooks. Boxing is the best for street fights if you have good balance and keep moving.
Boxing for self defense is not effective at all. Self defense is about avoiding or removing yourself from a dangerous situation quickly and effectively. A quick punch from a boxer can be effective in a few situations, but in order to defend yourself you need to know how to incapacitate an attacker and escape utilizing every form of attack possible, kicks, knees, elbows, take downs etc. Do whatever it takes to escape. If you're idiotic enough to get yourself into street fights, that's different from self defense.
Unfortunately living in lower class neighborhoods, a lot of violence takes place in the neighborhood. It's not always the person's choice to get into a street fight. If you run it would just make it worse and more people would want to fight you than to begin with.
A street fight isn't boxing.. fights usually end up on the ground.. dirty fighting is your best defense on the street.. eye gouging, headbutts, heal of hand under the nose, kicks to the gonads, choking, knees, to the SOLAR PLEXUS...all backed up with a big gas tank.. If you can just withstand the initial onslaught of your opponent, his adrenaline rush, you can out last him.. then take over.. In the beginning , good footwork, if space permits, will keep you out of harms way..and you may be able to counter his wild swings.. soon, the brawler will tire... and figtique makes cowards of us all. Don't step away, until he is unconsious, and you are safely away from the situation.. never, never, stay around.. the beaten fighter will get revenge if he can with whatever means available to him
Being able to use your hands or not has little to do with if it goes to the ground or not...that is MOSTLY decided on who knows grappling and how to stay on the feet, regardless two punchers usually end up scuffling clinching and wrestling in 4 out of 5 fights unless they get a quick k.o.The talk of jui jitsu this and that is overatted before ufc and after fights still to this day end up in grabbing brawls and sloppy punches..boxing /striking is good obviously but from my experience the grappler usually controls the fight better, and can land at will where he wants. In your defense the average striker will win vs a a sloppy brawler who starts losing and starts grabbing.
Hey, am I the only one in this club using my real name? Either that, or I'm on another planet.. Can I change my name now, or is it too late ? How do I do that? Anyway, back to the topic... To the good hands guy in here, kudos to you if you managed to end all your fights without it ever going to the ground.. But it would help to have others tools in case you run across someone that gets you down... I once got out of a tight spot on the ground by biting the guys legs wrapped around my head.. When he let go I hit him in the nuts.. Another second or two and I would have passed out or died...
There is no use this or that, not knowing how to box or learn the mechanics of it is dumb no matter what art you are doing. Most fights end in hook punches,if it doesn't go to the ground.Knowing the mechanics in itself can help you throw these punches or avoid them.Boxing is a must for anyone who doesn't want to limit themselves its not a good idea to realy on traditional arts unless you are well schooled at them, most aren't ...even black belts of any art have never actually fought before, always have an instructor that actually shows you what really works in the street not the one doing push ups in his dojo .Boxing should be your main hand strikes with added martial arts for the street.Boxing/grappling...a.k.a dirty boxing is a great mechanic to use.
UFC goes to the ground because most fighters were wrestlers and bjj practitioners and have no other outlet for a fight sport other than ufc. It depends on who and where your fighting for it to go to the ground. In the hood, the fights get broken up if they go to the ground. Against someone from the suburbs or who has never fought, it will go to the ground due to them watching to many movies and thinking that sh*t is real. Overall, the more well versed you are in the ground game and standing game can only be good.
