Thanks. Just offering some thoughts — your idea and do it your way but looking through one long thread trying to keep up would be discouraging to me.

@Austinboxing I have to agree with Pat. Doing as many fights as you want to do with as many guys willing to participate, having an entire thread for all of that would be a lot. Individual posts, or at least like one thread every so many fights seems like it would be a better idea.

Sorry, I can only commit to as and when possible. For this one Ali-Frazier 1 I submit: -

    Entertainment 5
    Significance. 5
    Skill. 5
    Heart. 5
Close 4 (at the least imo)

I did a scorecard previously - I think it was in the realm of 8-7 Frazier.

    Thanks @Austinboxing !!

Surprised myself last time I scored the fight. Had it 8-7 Ali.

One more question @Austinboxing, could you clarify what you mean by "close"? Are you talking about how close the fight was points-wise, or how competitive it was?

That's how I have scored the fight on several revisits, when ever the FOTC comes up I have always maintained that Ali won, and have said so since I joined up, have posted many articles to that effect, at that time the early 70s a computer was used for for the punch stats, and the result was very enlightening and the numbers were, Ali hit Joe twice as much as Joe hit him, and this was not the lighter, dancing fighter of the early to late 60s, at this stage Ali was a hard and hurtful puncher, witness Joe's face at the conclusion, very few people share my opinion I know, but I am steadfast that Ali outpointed Frazier.
    stay safe guys.

I agree with every word. Frazier took a beating so severe, he was hospitalized, and rumored to have passed away (which Ali cried upon hearing and swore to never fight again if it was true). Never quite the same after that.

Well, a young, free thinking and relatively unscathed by alcohol, Larry Merchant scored the fight for Ali. I don’t know if that helps or detracts from our argument for a close fight. Lol.

One of the significant takeaways from that fight for me was how the commentary waxed lyrical about Frazier’s ability to take the punishment Ali was meting out - and that they couldn’t see Frazier taking it for too long without detrimental effects.

That’s all well and good, but it was AS IF Frazier was also being scored positively for being able to take Ali’s shots - what about Ali actually being scored those punch landing points for himself? Lol.

    Hi Pugguy.
Excellent well laid out post, and refreshing slant on the punches landed by Ali, many a true word said in jest.
    stay safe hombre, chat soon.

Well Mike, I can share it.

That’s your good self, @swagdelfadeel and me, a formidable trio to say the least and sufficient for a quorum.

Think of us as the early, minority defiers of the flat earth view, trying to provide a more “rounded” and sensible view on things.

Mike - I couldn’t be more pumped than if I was listening to the original Rocky theme right now - I feel like I now have to go beat the meat..,
err....I mean like Rocky and Joe Frazier did, of course.
