The paparazzi are there not because of Wlad but because of Hayden. So do not take that video as a sign of mainstream news for boxing.

Today's copy of the NY Times, section B:

(there was a color picture of Hopkins on the section's front page, although the article itself didn't make it)

Manny Pacquiao wins 2011 ESPY Fighter of the year award.

Props to Pac and a great day for the sport of boxing.

...except they didn't televise that during the awards ceremony last night. The only people who know about it are boxing (or MMA) fans who were waiting for that information and looked it up after the ESPYs show had aired. I watched most of it (from like half an hour in) and didn't see anything about FOTY. It's one of the less cared about awards and doesn't get any screen time.

So that isn't exactly a case of boxing getting back into mainstream news. :think

the june 25th edition of USA today had an article on page 2 of the sports section covering Devon Alexander's fight as well as a small text on Felix Sturm's fight (if I remember correctly.)

What are you laughing and patsching at?

Having a segment of the show devoted to it would count as mainstream attention.

The fact that they have a Best Fighter ESPY doesn't mean much for boxing, as it's one of the red-headed step children of categories that get no major shine - plus they lump it in with MMA which does not do boxing's image any good. (although boxers have won every year).

SI online article on Maravilla: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=330066

In this month's printed issue of Sports Illustrated, there is a full-page color advert for Khan vs. Judah (all the way on the inside back cover, but still). :conf

Also, one of the captioned pics in the first few pages has the "Agony of the Feet" gag - but NOT in reference to David Haye!!! (it's some swimmer upside down with her legs sticking out of the water)

:-( A step backward, as ESPN.com has dropped the boxing tab from the main toolbar on its splash page.

    Tennis has a tab.

    Women's basketball has a tab.

High school athletics has a tab.

Racing actually has TWO tabs (with NASCAR getting its own).

...and most insulting, MMA has its own tab.

    Boxing is no longer there.

You're right. I watched and didn't see them air it. It's an award that has been aired before. That's not a good sign.

I don't know if anyone has seen that Gatorade commercial, but it shows a prime JCC jumping rope. I thought that was badass. It also shows a lot of other atheletes as it shows how Gatorade has evolved to its current state.
