Boxing getting back into mainstream news?

Alright I was doing a bit of research and I stummbled upon the Friday Night Fights ratings for the Bredis Prescott-Harrison Cuello fight. Also, the TV Ratings include the programming before and after the fights which was Tennis (the RBR were good times making fun of Tennis and laughing at the announcers not knowing what they were talking about ) . Anyway, it's a nice little comparison to see exactly where boxing stacks up and here are the ratings.

8-6-2010 - ESPN2 - Tennis Men (US Open) - 153,000 live viewers
8-6-2010 - ESPN2 - Friday Night Fights - Breidis Prescott-Harrison Cuello - 523,000 live viewers
8-6-2010 - ESPN2 - Tennis Women (US Open) - 233,000 live viewers


So, partytime!!! At least we know that boxing is more popular than tennis and that if ESPN2 starts cutting down programs tennis is on the chopping block rather than boxing! Partytime!! artytime arty

 

Bump. Ok, Mark Wahlberg is on the cover of the sports magazine, Sports Illustrated, as Micky Ward promoting the movie The Fighter which comes out this saturday (12/17/10)

And on ESPN this sportnation thing has some poll question regarding "who should Manny Pacquiao fight next?" The three answers to choose from is Andre Berto, JMM, and Mosley. At the moment, there are over 5,500 votes and JMm has the most with 42%, Andre Berto 32%, and Mosley with 26%. There are some other poll questions as well regarding Pacquiao. Who will Pacquiao fight? Will Pacquiao and Mayweather fight? How would a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight end? And who will go down as the greater fighter Mayweather or Pacquiao?

Don't know if you would really classify this as getting into the mainstream, but I figured what the hell? It gives me an excuse to bump this thread.

To be fair these were the only 10 fighters you can choose from, but still kind of interesting that they have, ATM, Sergio Martinez in the number 2 spot.

Hey, good bump. Made it easy on me to find this thread without going through 10+ pages. IB, did they end up showing any highlights of the fight?

Just making a reminder that on 1/11 FX will be debuting a boxing drama show called Lights Out. Not that this is actual mainstream news dealing with real actual boxing, but nonetheless might be worth checking out.
