Working in London Bridge at the moment and living in Lewisham. I was wondering if there are any good gyms for amateurs looking to compete(aged 26).

I've heard Rooney's is just white collar.

How about Honour Oaks or Double Jab in New Cross?

I'm sorry if this thread has been done before, but some advice on good places to box in SE London would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

i live in lewisham as well and i go to rooney's.

hard knocks boxing (formerly real fight club) has moved their camp to rooney's and they train during the day time. so if u want to fight the pro's then you have to during the day as a few guys from other gyms come in to train ocassaionally to spar these guys.

during the evening yes it is mostly white collar. However, if you are looking to fight, sparring can be arranged accordingly at rooney's so i would not get too bent out of shape about it being white/collar or pro bc at the end of the day rooney's is a decent mix of pro/white collar. depending on how much you weigh i can definitely spar with you.

in regards, to other gyms, you can hop on the dlr to get to canning town and you have the choice of tko and peacock. TKO has a lot of fighters to jump in the ring with at all times, but its too much like an old school gym and doesnt have proper faciliaties like rooney's such as locker's, showers etc. Peacock has a lot of facilities.

i think if you are any good, you will find sparring wherever you go at all 3 gyms.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. Going to head to Fisher. Great history and right beside my work. Is Rooney's open on Saturdays?

Its not for me to get too much into detail but the original gym in forest hill split and the guy who was the ABA coach at double jab in forest hill has now set up Palmers Boxing Academy in Catford.

Fantastic place I will add, spacious and £5 a session which is much better cost wise than the more well known gyms. The coaches makes an effort to do pads etc with the begginers also.

Double Jab abc is one of the most successful clubs in se London in the last season. It's been open 4 years with 5 gold medals in the box cup!
