Who is in, who is out? http://twitpic.com/6up5ya Includes: Curry Farr Ceferino Garcia Hamed Hearns Mark Johnson Cocoa kid Dariusz Mich... Sven Ottke Ken Overlin Gustave Roth Wilfredo Vasquez Hilario Zapata Hearns should sail in, think Hamed, Cocoa Kid and Curry will get in this year. Ottke/Darius are probably on a knife edge, wouldn't be overly shocked to see either/both.
Dan Rafael said on his twitter, that on first glance Hearns, Dariusz and Mark Johnson will be getting his vote. He said up to 10 votes are allowed.
I don't know how these things get with people getting votes because they've missed out on previous ballots but I'd go for Hearns Yuh and then maybe a fighter like Cocoa Kid, Kingpetch or Al Hostak who I presume have lost out in ballots before.
Well, the amount admitted is always higher than the amount of HOF boxers that become eligible that year, so naturally you're looking through people who failed in the past. But yeah, I agree with the general principle, if you have been denied before, why should you be voted in further down the line if nothing has changed?
It a weird system, fighters can get in through attrition and I'm sure there must an element of "he's been waiting long enough" when some of the votes are cast.
I dont really follow all this 'hall of fame ' stuff, what is the criteria to get in? Why isnt hearns in already? Is it because he was fighting up until a few years ago?
yeah, a fighter isn't eligible until he's been retired for 5 years. The HOF as 3 categories for boxers, "modern", "old time" and "pioneers". The 3 fighters with the most votes in each category get into the HOF. The greats tend to get in the first or second time they become eligible but a lot of fighters seem to get in when there are no greats up for the vote that year and they've missed out enough times in previous "drafts". (I THINK thats right!!!)
does anyone really think naz can get in at this stage???.........he might still come back at super heavy weight! hahaha
