Based on ring IQ only, and from A to F where do you place fighters that you follow.

    I have

    Mayweather A
    Hopkins A
    Mosley B+
    De La Hoya B+
    Cotto B
    JMM B
    Barrera B
    Vtali B-
    Hasegawa C

Then further down fighters who rush in , and tend to lose by knockout, but when on top can look very good.

    Hatton D
    Darchinyan D
    Katsidis D-

like the thread but you'll get a lot of arguments about mosley. mosley knew one way to fight: rush in, throw fast flurries and win with superior athleticism/skill. against cotto, forrest (rip) and mayweather he showed zero adaptability

Mayweather's and Hopkins' are seriously the best from what you menioned. Mayweather has the IQ that enables him to swith a plan MID-FIGHT, something that people are increasingly overlooking. Hopkins has the IQ that means that a lot of fighters don't even get a look in, never mind compete with him. They're not even in position to land a punch a lot of the time, that's why people call him boring, because his generalship is so good that most opponents don't get going against him.

Montiel is another good one, mostly single shot counters but he maintains his distance so well that he can pick hard ones perfectly. His style is similar to Benny Leonard's in that respect (not saying they're on the same level)

Id put Hatton to a C-, JMM to a A- and lower Mosley to a B-. Good list.

I don't think JMM or Mosley are that great in this regard at all myself

mosley gets a d for being a beast at one thing and a ***** at everything else

    hatton gets a u

watch the mayweather fight, gets warned for grabbing and holding, by dumbass cortez. but goes back to doing the same thing where he can mount no offence laying on floyd

mayweather, i agree with an a

roy jones jr should be pretty high for the rediculous things he makes up and does

    b-hop top of the list
he is just amazing at what he does
he is better than his very impressive record shows

also marquez should be pretty high

JMM i'd say should rate high. not just the pac fights but both diaz fights, peden, and even the barrera fight (which i scored a draw)

Not for me, allowing fighters to attack you and then knocking the **** out of them with perfect combos is great, but i don't factor it into a debate wherein we're discussing ring IQ. I associate ring IQ with generalship more so than any other particular aspect of boxing. For me JMM's glaring weakness is footwork, but to his credit he was so good at his own game that he was able to overcome stylistic disadvantages such as against pure boxers like John (i thought JMM clearly won that). For me a great pure boxer should always be outmaneuvering JMM, but to his credit, it took Mayweather to do it to him, when JMM was past his sell by date no less.

JMM's a fine fighter, and an atg combo puncher, but i've never rated his generalship. Remember the Gainer fight? That's not how you cut the ring off, Gainer was running like a wild man and Marquez was just chasing him, i don't rate his IQ but each to their own.

For me he's just a fantastic combo hitter and he overcomes some stylistic disadvantages against lesser opposition because he is so good.

PBF A+(Highest IQ in the sport can adjust to all styles and dictate tempo thinking man's fighter)
Hopkins A+(Crafty vet adept at setting traps frustrating you and making you fight his fight)
JMM A- (mainly for trading with Pac when he could have easily just outboxed him)
Oscar A- (Very smart fighter but sometimes couldn't adjust to elite fighters to find a way to win also relied too much on his left hook in a few fights)
MAB B+ (Great technician when he wanted to but lured into too many wars when he didn't have to)
    Vitaly B
Molsey C- ( fights dumb can't adjust when faced with adversity and has no answer for a good jab)
Cotto C- (fights dumb was lured into a brawl with Pac when he could have boxed, refused to clinch Margo to break up rhythm when they fought abandons body attack in jab often to early on in fights)
Hatton C-(Too reckless in fights coming in hands down with leaping hooks and squares up as well)
Vic D C- (Really has no plan B when he can't hurt his opponent and get them out of there)
    Kats D+ (See Vic D)

Mosley did well for himself to get shots in against Winky especially some to the body. Also getting in some shots against Forrest but he can't adapt worth ****. He's probably average but no way is he "above average" in the ring generalship department. JMM, he's a smart fighter like Mosley in the sense that he can get in smart shots here and there(JMM of course does it better) but his IQ isn't above average either.

I put Hopkins a little ahead of Mayweather on top cause he doesn't have the same skills as PBF, therefore he needs even more of his mental game in the ring, as opposed to Floyd sometimes just doin' the job with his superior skills.

    PRESENTLY :

    1- Hopkins
    2- Mayweather
    3- W. Klitschko
    4- Vitali Klistchko
    5- Andre Ward
