I agree with these posts. Calzaghe was one of the best at adapting. Khan, for such an experienced fighter, is pretty naive, when I say experienced, I refer to his extensive amateur career to. On Mosley, he is just not a smart fighter imo, infact there were times in Mayweather fight where he would throw the kind of jabs out there, that had counter me written all over them.
Mayweather AAA Hopkins B His judge IQ is debatable Mosley D If mosley had ring iq hed be unstoppable De La Hoya C Cotto B- Cottos a smart fighter.. his habits lower his score JMM A Barrera C Vtali C Hasnt quite learned to hide that right hand thats always coming WLAD A Feintnig you in position to take that left hook..gorgeous Hasegawa b Hatton D Darchinyan C To entertaining to be smart most of the time Katsidis F
This seems about right to me, but I'd put Wlad lower. He's great at sticking to his game plan, but he's not particularly adaptable in the ring, unlike his brother who can change his style based on the situation. I don't know if he's been mentioned yet, but Nate Campbell has a pretty high ring IQ.
You're welcome, sorry if it came across that away but i give credit to fighters who are good at cutting down the ring when discussing ring IQ. On a sidenote, this discussion isn't reflective of how effective i rate the fighter(s) as, for example Marquez is a fine fighter, i just don't think this is his forte personally.
id say the best boxer with a ring IQ that i would grade an F is juan urango. its a miracle this guy is a former 2 time champ. when he throws punches he just uses his arms not his body and he walks straight into punches and 75 percent of his punches are just hooks he throws with his arms. i dont even think this guy looks to see where hes throwing alot of times. its a miracle that he can generate enough power to knock people out cold and he just uses his arms. its a good thing the guy is built like a boulder.
Calzaghe had like two modes...the boxer, in and out using his skills...and the slap attack overwhelming. Hardly the great strategist...he uses one style...if it dosent work he goes to the next style. He fought nobody prime enough and/or good enough to beat both styles (Hopkins outboxed him but was too hold to hold off the workrate) Hardly worthy of an A
