Boxing "historian" Tony Triem calls Ali a "bum"

He has some good opinions

But calling Ali 'a bum' totally discredits him lmao.

 

Makes good points on how he was self proclaimed,even if he is the Goat,he is still overrated iMO

 

How can a man who fought and beat every top ranked contender some twice, from the early sixties until 1980 ducking absolutely no one, be overrated?
You've even called him the GOAT yet say he's overrated! :huh

 

Now we are talking about him, before of that no one knew of his existence.

 

I love when people try to discredit Ali's punching power, even though he apparently hit hard enough to stop... well, everyone.

Anyway, this dude is clearly a hater but does make a couple of good points.

 

He is a republican.

 

He sounds somewhat racist since all the fighters he holds high are old old boxers of the 19th century. To call Muhammad Ali a bum totally discredits his opinion and makes him come off as a biased hater. Some of what he says makes sense, most of Ali's big fights barring the Foreman fight were controversial decisions, and most people call him the greatest because he advertised that.

However, don't you have to advertise yourself to become a big name in boxing? Ali did what he had to do and you have to respect him for that. He also seems to not agree with Ali not going to the draft. He's an idiot for being ambiguous, not going to the draft was a great decision on Ali's part.

He also says James Jeffries has the most power. He also lied about his record, he said 18-0 when in fact it was 19-1. He got punished by Jack Johnson, admittedly though he was past his prime against Johnson. I think Jack Johnson could beat him in his prime though but that would be debatable.

I agree with him that Cus D'Amato was perhaps the greatest trainer of all time, or tied with Eddie Futch.

I think he knows boxing history but his opinions are biased towards old boxers of the past and has a tinge of racism in him.

Sure Ali had some questionable decisions, but he fought everyone in an outstanding era

Plus he was forced to the sideline for 4 years & still came back to compete with the best
