According to Boxrec, they no longer recognize any WBA title fights ... ever.

Boxrec, the "official record keeper of boxing" ... now says ...

    * Victor Galindez was never a light heavyweight champion.

    * Muhammad Ali never regained the heavyweight title for the third time against Leon Spinks.

    * Boom Boom Mancini never won the Lightweight Title for his dad.

    * Thomas Hearns was never a welterweight champion.

    * Pipino Cuevas was never a welterweight champion.

    * There was never a WBA Heavyweight tournament after Ali was stripped of his title.
    * Jimmy Ellis never won nor defended the WBA title.
    * John Tate, Mike Weaver, Michael Dokes, Gerrie Coetzee, Greg Page and Bonecrusher Smith never won anything, either.

The list goes on and on and on.

At the moment, they haven't purged NBA champions' records. Not sure why, since that's the WBA. But nobody over there has probably figured that out yet.

If so, most NBA champs in history will never have actually won anything, either.

Glad we having someone keeping track of boxing history over there.

    What morons.

Looks like Beterbiev and Bivol don't have to fight now.

Beterbiev ... unified Light Heavyweight champion!!!

Boxrec is mad that the WBA is partnering with another record keeping site, so they have purged all WBA championships from Boxrec ... and history.

A tantrum which kinda makes Boxrec "not a quality source" for boxing information.

Way to shoot yourselves in the foot, Boxrec.

Sadly a Very British attitude... they/we are the Superior of People & Nations on the earth, the Only Way is 'English/British'.

Disturbing reality about this 'once' great little island and Her Heritage, though, long, long been replaced by an ignorance & arrogance like NO Other Western Nation.

and Sadly that IS the :deal:.

Goddamn, you're right. I was confused last night when I was looking through Julian Jackson's record and saw that it didn't have his WBA related wins noted, but I figured it was nothing.

There's a reason why I've been calling it BoxWRECK for over 17 years. It has some value, but as Steve Compton told me, it's an extremely dangerous tool and a fountain of misinformation. I have the 1957 Ring Record Book (admittedly NY centric, as that was Nat Fleischer's base of operations, so there's no coverage of Murderer's Row for example), and also a paperback boxing almanac from the early 1930's. Chronicles like these, along with recollections of past bouts witnessed in person or viewed on television or on film expose how completely awful BoxWRECK can be.

However much the WBA/NBA can stink, this is also the oldest extant sanctioning body, dating back over a century to Dempsey-Carpentier, also the first HW Title bout announced on radio. Ignoring them and Ring Magazine as established by Fleischer in 1922, or Harry Carpenter's published British oriented record keeping is unbelievably stupid and laughable, but that's clearly the direction BoxWRECK appears to headed in. Screw 'em!

I’ll continue to recognize Victor Galindez for the sake of hanging another belt around Marvin Johnson’s waist. One of my favorite KOs.

I respect the WBA, about as much as some things that I have scraped of my shoe, but I am not comfortable with the idea of pretending that it doesn't exist.

To be clear, that wasn’t intended as a slight to Victor Emilio Galindez or all his accomplishments. Just so happens that Pops is one of my all-time faves … honestly don’t see how anyone could not like watching Marvin or root against him.

The fights where for a title, they really have no right to scrub it clean like this.
