According to Boxrec, Ali was never stripped of his WBA heavyweight title for his stance on Vietnam, never had his boxing license revoked, and there was never a WBA Heavyweight Elimination tournament, which was won by Ellis.

Could've swore I saw something on that. Oh well. Great job, Boxrec.

Guess who didn't become the youngest champ in history when he beat Antonio Cervantes?

    Wilfred Benitez.

That sounds the way I remember it.

According to Boxrec, Antonio Cervantes was never champion. Never won anything.

Mike McCallum was never champion at 154 or 160.

Virgil Hill went from engaging in nearly 30 title fights and winning titles in two divisions ... to winning just one title fight ... against Henry Maske.

    Sounds about right. :dunno

I remember people saying some guy named "Eusebio Pedroza" set a record for successful FW title defenses. Apparently that never happened, b/c I don't see a single FW title fight under Pedroza's name.

I recall quitting as boxrec editor back then when the owner of the site refused to have David Haye's "unsanctioned" (by the BBBoC, instead it was sanctioned by Belgian commission, the fight held in London) bout entered in the database in 2012. He must have changed his opinion later, after David Haye had mended his troubles with the BBBoC, I suppose, the bout is in the database now ( https://boxrec.com/en/event/648464 ). But "cancelling" all title bouts involving major boxing body is a different matter altogether. Expect current conflict mended too, and he will pretend nothing has happened at all, returning everything back in place.

Do you think this has anything to do with the lack of info on earlier title fights that weren't universially recognized? I just assumed it was documentation. After all boxing recs own wiki tends to be where I've learned about much of this but it is very rarely on the proper site.

I do think stuff after say 1960 or so was pretty comphrenshive on boxerrec. Until now obviously.

On another note, how did this guy get banned so quickly? How do you even get banned in the first place?

I was at the Minter v Hagler fight disgraceful behaviour, but I seem to remember there were worse nights at the Felt Forum and cups of urine aren't thrown at boxing matches in the UK.Yes we sing the National Anthem, before sporting events.Don't you all get up and put your hands on your heart when"Oh say can you see," begins"?
Rge Gutteridge was a good commentator and open handed, Harry Carpenter less so.
I don't want to get political, but you have a certain " Orange Man",playing on the underlying prejudices and fears of some Americans to regain power, blaming minorities for everything, it's the oldest con in the book.Hitler did it,Mussolini did it,it just saddens me to see a great country like the US fall for such blatant BS.I've only been to NY ,so I can't comment on the behaviour of people in other parts of the country. All I can say is I was treated with great courtesy in the Big Apple.

As to the flag waving you are a nation of immigrants including a large Jewish population it would be strange if this wasn't reflected in banner waving.imo.
