I made this question like in 2022 and most of it was negative but with this whole boxing mega fight trend and best fighting the best no question what will boxing look like in 5 years Good or bad
More celebrities pretending to be prizefighters, more politics, less marquee fights and generally worse over all. Hype went past substance long ago.
Mike Tyson started boxing at 13 and won the title at 20 years old. That’s 7 years. Tomorrow some kid might start boxing that will be knocking out contenders 5 years from now and will become an ATG. So I remain optimistic.
In 5 years, Tank still won't have fought anyone top drawer and there will still be apologists claiming he's P4P. Not that boxing is defined by one fighter, but it's a perfect illustration of what's wrong with the sport - when so called "fans" of the sport will put their backing of particular fighters before the good of boxing and not only flock to pay for second rate fights, but defend ducking cowards whilst hyping them up as all time greats, there is simply no motivation for talented fighters to take the fights that would make them real. And the fighters that have some pride and become the best they can be (whatever level that's at!) will always have their greatness tainted by the unearned reputations of second rate fighters with third rate resumes and no losses on their official records... see the relative records of AJ and Wilder, for example. On the plus side, there will always be good fights - just not necessarily between the fighters that attract the most attention or PPV figures.
I think it'll stay strong but leave the english speaking world. In a decade I think most champs will speak Spanish/Russian/some Asian language. What little talent comes through in the US follows the Floyd system of maximizing profits which is bad for the viewer and the overall health of the sport. Boxing will never gain popularity with people like Devin Haney being popular. We need 10 times more Tank Davis types and we need them in wars against the best in the world.
Boxing is an unslayable beast that has already survived all manner of abuse for their own gain by those running it. So it will still be around in 5 years time, that much is certain. I suspect though, that in 5 years time, boxing will be even more a business and even less a sport than it is now and that the line between what's real and what's entertainment will become even more blurred.
I suspect that in 5 years boxing will revolve around Britain in a way that it hasn't since they built the boardwalk in Atlantic City. There will still be fights in Vegas, but I don't think they'll be on any TV channel nationwide.
