alright some kid found out i box and wants to box me. he is about same height as me. about 6 ft 1. but he weighs about 230-240 and jacked. he benches 300lbs. he has no real boxing experience, but he does box in backyards often. any tips? BTW i only about 155
I dont think it would be wise to box this guy, I'm not saying you can get around his size, but if he gets mad or frustrated some skinny kids was getting the best of him, he might end up dumping you on your head, I seen that happen a few times before. I dont know how good you are or that, but you would be surprised how out of shape some of these big weight lifters are, if you do end up doing it, stay at a distance and use your jab and use your footwork to circle around him. Say you challange him to a 6, 2 minute rounds, I guarantee he either gives up or falls from exhaustion by the 3rd or 4th round. I been down this rode before, it's best just to stick and move, chances are you will see almost every punch he throws anyway. Good luck!
lol. im not worried about him dumping me on my head or anything becuase ill kill him in a fight with my BJJ and wrestling. but boxing im not good against any1 but my weightclass. i have good footwork and stance. i have strong quick punches with good form for the basic punches, jab, cross, hook, uppercut and all of them to the body. not good with overhand right, shovel, etc. i also am not good at blocking i usually just take the punch. but idk if i can do this the whoel time with this guy
If this guy doesnt practice boxing or another contact type sport on a daily basis, you should still win easily, just make sure you keep a high guard, rarely will a guy who's not practiced boxing will he go to the body. If you got good stamina, you should win, because this guy probably doesnt. Make it 6, 2 minute rounds, with a minute break in between. Im telling you he will either quit or drop from exhaustion by the 3rd or 4th round, just stay on the outside and watch for the loaded up punches he going to try and throw. By the 3rd round the man will be breathing through his mouth and be close to falling from being tired, this is when you rip the body punches, and if you see his hands drop, throwa good inside hook to the chin and move back out of punching range. If this guy doesnt train on a pretty regular basis, you will find it easy picking this guy apart.
Different sport entirely, you will be surprised how fast he gets tired. I remember when I didnt box for about 6 months and pretty much lifted weights and played basketball, I got back in the gym and felt myslef getting tired by the 3rd and just was a pretty stationary target for the next 3 rounds. If you keep your hands up and dont get into a punch for punch type match with him, I cant see you losing. How's your stamina, can you go 6rds, 2 mintue rounds still throwing punching and being active?
He is right. I HIGHLY doubt the guy sees the 4th round. This is (of course) an assumption that he doesn't have great cardio and isn't in "boxing" shape, but I have seen these types of fights before and the big guy will gas out VERY quickly more often than not. I suggest sticking and moving, and if you don't have the best speed or footwork go to the body. People who haven't boxed before always drop their hands when they get hit to the body and then you can obviously rip him upstairs. Your problem (from what you say) is that you get hit quite a bit. This could be a big problem against a guy who has 80lbs on you. Depends how quick/good at slipping you are,,,or as Punisher said; sticking and moving. If you are decent this shouldnt be that tough of a fight based on what you have said. Are you guys putting on head gear? I would suggest you do.....typically these sorts of fights don't have it though
Why are you worried about this anyway. Ive boxed a football teammate of mine in a old abandonded parking lot and he weighs about 230, stands about 6,2". Im only 5'9" and had no problem, didnt get hurt or anythings and i dont even box. Trust me, you will demolish him.
