Sityodtong is also cheaper than Fairtex IIRC.

Everyone :bowdown to Boranbkk BTW, this man is an invaluable source of first hand knowledge, we are very lucky to have his input.

Hey Win, no I’ve never trained in either of Fairtex gyms, although am pretty familiar with the set up. They’re both good gyms with good fighters and trainers but definitely geared for westerners which never was and isn’t my taste, (I’m late 90s Old Skool Thai in gym taste). I’d say Fairtex is the best of the western orientated gyms in Thailand for MT, good for a short stay or an initiation into Thailand for the 1st timer. The Ritz compared to most Thai MT gyms, in terms of comfort equipment and amenities. Infact in Thailand I’ve I trained mostly in BKK, a little in the deep south and a few one offs in Issan very different environments to Fairtex or the like.

Now Flea is spot on (as usual) with every point especially the last one. That old chestnut of taking sand to the beach comes to mind. :yep I don’t want to sound like a busted record, but I can’t stress enough if your trip is solely for training purposes stay away from Pattaya, Samui, Phuket and Chang Mai, unless of course you are there for a bit of R&R or with the wife and family then of course it’s totally understandable to squeeze a few weeks or days training in at a place like Fairtex or the others on this tread, cuts out alot of bull if your short on time. It can also be useful if you are in town for just a few weeks to train for a fight and just need some bags pads ring sparring etc and aren't so interested in long term development.

About Sityodtong Camp in Pattaya, yes as Flea said it’s an ATG camp with an ATG head trainer Ajan Yodtong Senanan. It still has top fighters, trainers, vibe etc. and good luck to Flea when he goes there in November, he may get to watch some legends on the pads and pick up the intensity of watching some Thai champs train (which is ****in mind blowing the 1st time you see a Thai Champ train in the flesh), however…..as serious venue for a long term stay, well unless you are Thai or an A class fighter with a big name you could get pushed down the pecking order a little too much. For a foreigner it could possibly be one of those gyms I mentioned in my 1st post that has got a bit big, shrine like, and fleshy round the waist, similar to trying to train in the Wild Card in LA. But I could be wrong. (I sound really negative right?! Sorry not intended!)

Don’t be misled by seeing well known western international fighters training in these western styled gyms like fairtex and the others on this thread. You’d be absolutely amazed how unadventurous, unimaginative and lazy some of the big names can be. I never forget In about the year 2000 or 2001 I’d had a nothing tune up fight in a well-known red light district in BKK and in the crowd watching was Peter Crooke and Kirkwood Walker both big names in British Muay Thai back home at that time with Kirkwood Walker having just done a couple of K1 bouts. Neither guy had much experience in training in Thailand and when I asked them where they were training to my horror and amazement  they were training in this nothing gym in the carpark of a hotel in the red light district, it wasn’t a proper gym and the trainers and facilities were non-existent, I couldn’t believe it, ****in mad! They were too lazy or clueless to find a proper gym! No disrespect to those guys, two top fighters in the ring and two of our greatest international Muay Thai guys at the time but bloody hell. (Photo below from that meeting; I’m the little Thai sized guy in the middle).

One other thing, Flea is very generous to me and bigs me up a lot when I talk about Thailand and MT, but I’m just a newbie. We all know Flea is an absolute legend on the forum with an insane number of post 99% of them spot on and an almost encyclopaedic type knowledge of it all, boxing, MT and MMA whatever the era or country, we are lucky to have him in all the different forums. I bow to you sir. :bowdown:bowdown:bowdown

 Cheers pal. But 99% right? :bart :nono Show some respect to the 2011 British Forum Poster of the Year will you please?!

Love the 'mask' you've added, keeps the mystery ;-) To quote numerous characters in 'Roadhouse' 'I thought you'd be bigger'.

Another quality post, as for Pattaya, I was just trying to look at it from the perspective that I want Win to have a guilt-free future with his missus :D I have no self-respect and told my last missus I was going to Pattaya and she could like it or leave it :deal Needless to say she dumped me when she rang me a few days in and I was getting my **** sucked by some tiny teen :rofl

As for Sityodtong, I agree that it'll probably be hard to get a high level of training. You'd probably be left with a solid but unspectacular trainer. But with the amount of techniques Kru Yodtong has passed on to his lads, I reckon some of the magic will still rub off on you.

Isaan is a long-term goal. Don't know enough about it to be confident about embarking on a journey there yet, though as a lover of Thailand (the place, the people) a trip to Isaan is the pinnacle of real Thailand, and I'm sure it'd be a wonderful experience. Training there would be incredible I'm sure.

    It's ****ing shambolic mate :yep

Very little time there in November for me. Taking a mate for his first time so will do 10 days in Pattaya and ten days chilling on some islands, more for him but also for me, I've exhausted Pattaya and as much fun as it can be I'm less into the scene there then I was a few years ago. It's easy enough to go on the pull, and there are fit girls everywhere in Thailand.

There certainly is. Although they seemed to be banned from Koh Pagnan. The thai air seems to do summat to the western birds as well. Turns them into **** hungry ho's but you have to vie with the thai lads for their attention.

99%, got to leave something for the haters!

Good to see you're a law abiding Gent that takes notes of signs. The one on the Pattaya City Limits says:

"Strictly no Drugs, Guns, Prostitutes or Self - Respect allowed within the City Limits of the the Royal Town of Pattaya. (Subject to advance police discretion!)"

About Sityodtong your asseement's probabaly spot on as usual(don't worry I'm looking for that 1%):yep

Issan, BKK, the South all good!

Hatton's Hook, I know what you mean about farang bird's in Thailand. I always put it down to no one's really looking at them as all the Thais make them look like clumsy giant heffers! I've also found the same **** hungriness comes over Japanese birds in BKK to by the way! :happy

    The Jap girls:

Back of Sukhumvit Soi 11. Quit switched on working farang expat chicks to as it's got some good clubs, Bed, Q-bar at the start of the soi etc.

Little Japan on Sukhumvit Soi 24 and Sukhumvit Soi 33 (opposite each other).

Soi Thonglo Sukhumvit Soi 55. Also good for curious Thai Chinese chicks.

And surprisingly enough you reguarly get inquisitive packs of them in go go bars in Patpong! Particulalrly King's Corner, the one with a mix of girls and katoei.

Some of the jap girls that live in BKK as oppossed to the visitors are a little older late 20s early 30s and are really relentless on the hunt for a western husband. Beware. (Have you ever sen the Jap movie Audution?) :scaredas:

If you wanted a Jap Muay Thai fling try Jitti's gym nr Khao San, you used to get a lot just trying it out for fun. Dainty little things all green contacts and dyed ginger hair attempting to kick pads, ****ing hilarious but strangely (or not) a massive erotic turn on!!
