Most of you have probably seen me post about... I enjoy watching boxing but have always been 'Nak-Muay' (Muaythai Student). Well I've been working on my hands the past few months and doing a few pad session with a boxing coach to supliment my training and today I spoke to him about giving the ABA's a shot next year. He was quite happy with the idea and thinks I will fit in quite well Said I should train with him a bit more but he wants to put me in with the guys who have had 15+ fights due to my previous experience. Said I'm happy with that... so I'm giving up Thaiboxing for the ABA season in September... so look forward to lots of questions
Why are you going straight for the ABAs? You could enter the under 10s or under 20s senior novices, and if you're as good as you say, you'd have a beter chance of geting far in them, which will get you beter recognition. Also, once you enter ABAs you become an inter by default, which means that if you get beaten by more experienced boxers and want to ease up opposition, you wont be able to, whereas if you do the novices, you can still box some novices to get experience. I'm no expert, but a guy i know who did Muay Thai at a fairly high level and then moved into Boxing told me its not an immediate transition, and you need time to adapt, get some easier matches. Then again, if a good boxing coach says you're ready, he probably knows what he's doing, so good luck, hope you do well
I never said I was good and because I'm only doing one season. If I get my ass kicked I'll happily take it as a learning experience. I realise they are very different sports
Are you sure they would sanction you against someone with 15 fights when you're unboxed or is it down to the gym's? Seems like an uneeded risk to take.
i'll be making the same transition later this year. soooo happy not to have to worry about knees to the ribs anymore.
