A very silly question for you, but I've been wracking my noggin for the answer to this one. Does anyone remember the fight series/show that started with the ringside bell ringing like 3 times fast and then a drum beat throughout the intro while depicting posters of fight cards and then fight poses such as Fitzsimmons and Johnson and had fight sequences such as Basilio answering the bell by banging his gloves together and then going out to meet his opponent? I know its not much to go on. I think it was the early 90s but I don't remember. I always thought it was a cool intro so i'm hoping this rings a bell with you guys.
https://youtu.be/HhuC1quvIxQ No, this was the Tuesday night fights intro, which begins at 5:47. But I take it you do remember the one I'm talking about??
I was thinking it was a segment, not USA Tuesday Night Fights itself. I remember them taking short looks, like less than five minutes, on a classic fight on some episodes. Your description just sort of rings a bell (so to speak). Then I got to thinking about a show they aired on weekend afternoons on NBC around 1990. 'Greatest Fights Ever', maybe. They showed Ali-Frazier 1 and 3, the now ubiquitous Ali-Foreman (I'm thinking this was the first airing of that fight since the mid-70s), and a special on the '15 Greatest Rounds Ever'. They always had a panel of experts & people involved discussing the fights - Archie Moore, Eddie Futch, Arthur Mercante, Carlos Padilla... It was a wonderful show and I wish they would have run more episodes, especially in those pre-You Tube days.
