No, you liked it because you're a shithead. In your mind, you're all like, "yay, he's putting CST in his place, hardy har har," but here's the catch, he feels the same about everyone else on this forum, he's a snobby obnoxious piece of ****. You don't give a damn about "Danny" or that other writer he mentioned, that I've already forgotten the name of either. If you somehow get the impression that I think I'm some kind of elitist as far as this sport goes, you're sadly mistaken, I'm a ****ing geek, I'm just like you and everyone else on this forum, a brash arrogant loudmouth with a lot of opinions. Nothing more, nothing less, same goes for IB, Rummy, The Professor, Kirk, Serge, moparfan, drenlou, Pimp C, Blizzy Blizz, Willie Maekat, Beouche, Loudon, UnleashtheFURY, etc.

The only difference with IB, myself and a few others, we're really good at stringing words together, in other words we're good bull****ters. Who also happen to really love this sport, like you I assume. But we tend to be a little more informed that the typical fan, because we're ****ing weirdos that dedicate WAAAAYYYY more time to this sport than most sane people should. That is all. Also IB could beat my ass senseless when it comes to overall boxing knowledge, so could a few other people on here, oh well, no big deal, I'm well aware of that. Just like I don't sweat taking a loss on here, because it happens, I don't view life as one big dick measuring contest, I'm more secure than that. If I **** up, so ****ing what, I pick myself back up and come out swinging twice as hard.

Way I see it, casual fans don't use forums to discuss the sport they casually follow, whereas all of us are hardcore fans because we do use these boards to discuss them more in depth than a casual. Like where's the 80k AJ fans on these boards; nowhere because the majority of them are casual fans.

As for the "You don't know the history of boxing" sentiment to state you can't do a article on the sport you follow is a bit silly really. Do you think even modern boxers read up on the history of boxing in that way, do football/soccer players read up the history of their sport before playing it? Does it make them better, nope. Its makes them more knowledgeable about the origins of the sports, but that's about it. It's like reading up about the origins of the English language and stating because I've read that, I'm more suited to write an English article than you. Bit silly really.

Good post OP. This is the reality of boxing business and politics vs the romantic idea that the best should always fight the best.

I actually own the full DVD fight collection of all the box office fighters from the 18th century. Shame they are all dead now because they were bloody good boxers.

All you had to say is "No, I do not appreciate being treated like I treat others"

I don't give a hoot how you sugar coat yer actions. It is disrespectful to claim one arrives at an opinion solely due to a lack of knowledge. You say casuals are X, whatever son yer writing novellas at me because you got shown you are the same.

"Casual Fan: Casual-Fans are fans who aren't particularly into their fandom. They enjoy it, know some trivia, see some fights, have some stuff. Casual-Fans are more laid back." and "You came by your information through casual means" Means the same thing. I know you think you're more than a laid back fan what knows some trivia, but yer not. What work do you put in? Well **** wouldn't you call a lack of effort laid back and casual?

Nothing says you don't care like a twelve paragraph post yeah? I'm just ****in with you, I do the same often actually.

I'm too new to give a damn about whose pride I hurt. You sir are an emotional little toad's pizzle who managed to spend four years on this forum and well over 100k posts without growing beyond casually gathered information while accusing others their opinions are only what they are because of a lack of effort in learning which downplays their unique experience in boxing as much if not more than I have yours, sir. Then when your authority is challenged the cursing starts, but you sir are not upset...hence emotional. I'm not trying to be mean really, I kinda like you and yer gumption, panache, but it's time to grow now. The people you refer to what are armed with the sort of information you refer to are as turned off by your overreaching accusations as you are me and mine.

Or whatever you can continue to rant against no one in particular while spreading common knowledge like that makes it substantiated but long rants of assumption while claiming to know better than anyone will get me to respond with something you got wrong being indicative of the level of research you brought to the table. We're gonna play nice here and treat everyone like all opinions are valuable or I will be there to knock whoever puts themselves on a pedestal down unless they have damn good reason for their self exaltation. Having by yer own admission done no research you have no authority to call anyone casual on the matter or label what casual perspective is, I do, and I don't care for the practice myself so I only trump casuals who call other casuals casual as if the former has done something to be more than casual....Because I'm a dick like that. What with my push for actually valuable information being spread to the most influential sort of fan and all.

This quote is taken from the same page you took that one above from.#
    Casual Fan
A person who enjoys the act of tailgating more than the sport itself. In many cases, the casual fan knows nothing about the actual sport being observed. This often results in the misuse of sport terminology, mispronounciation of athlete names, and overall confusion with rally cries."

As I said earlier, anybody who spends free time to discuss boxing on a website is not a casual fan. In CST's case, he gives detailed breakdowns of unknown up and comers, again this is not a casual fans' prerequisite from the terminology above. That is what a casual fan is, somebody who knows little about the sport they are watching, but try and understand it anyhow, kinda like if you hook up with a new GF who knows jack **** about your favourite sport, but pretends to like it; that is a casual fan.

It's interesting the definitions being thrown around.

I have a database containing a summary of everything I know about the top hundred or so fighters of all time. I've watched hours of fights from these guys and have detailed rbr accounts of all their major fights.

But I don't love boxing any more, the politic bs, a lot of what CST alludes to in the OP, is exactly why I defected my fandom to UFC.

So right now I'm a casual fan, but how many casual fans spend half their lives on a boxing forum and own a spreadsheet database of almost 100 fighters and their best performances?

How many casual fans have watched guys like Joe Gans, Benny Leonard or Bob Fitzsimmons?

How many causal fans have a spreadsheet tracing the lineage of the number 1 fighter at any given time throughout 18 weight classes?

But then again, like I say I don't follow the current scene as much, I'll watch Smith vs Williams tonight but no other fights.

A bit of a tangent but just rambling out loud.

As a tangent to the tangent (which makes it the same tangent mathematically speaking) this must have been one of your first threads right?

You're not a casual fan because you have a steep knowledge of the sport. You'll forever have that even if you stop watching forever, you'll never be a casual fan again. I stopped watching boxing for a few years, I never suddenly become a casual fan. A casual fan woulnd't be having this conversation neither. That new profile, who's called acasualfan, is not a casual fan because that profile knows about the contract negotiations for example. A casual fan woulnd't know nothing about what goes on behind the scenes in boxing.

    I agree completely.

How can one be sure you know anything about what you're observing without having done proper research? How can you be sure you're not attributing to the problem?

Why are you lot pushing back so hard against a call for real research? I'm sorry to derail the thread, but I thought I'd give OP a chance to take sometime and do real research and post something with a little less assumption. I think it would have been much meaner to get out my catalog and start nitpicking everything.

If what you said was true I would have been able to call sources based solely opinions. Again, I'm not trying to a dick, but this rally against research is starting to irk me a bit. I don't understand it, and no matter how much you try to tell me you know something on the matter when I'm able to guess your level of research that should suggest you might be mistaken about said something....you know if you lot weren't a gaggle self indulgent and self righteous counterfeits leading new fans down your same lazy path. Posting on a forum, for fun, and claiming that makes you more than casual. Just hand that **** out like candy do we?

Before you get yer panties knotted princess, take a minute to really think about your position and whether or not you really want to be arguing " Aw c'mon guy lay off, we might be a little ignorant, but they're very ignorant."

It's a bit like being a trainer and being asked to shut up while you observe a temp train someone improperly. I really shouldn't because once you've ingrained your bull**** into them I have to do more work to prove the truth.

Finally, all I'm asking is if you are all unwilling to do any research on the subject you speak on present yourself like that. Not like someone with the authority to teach new fans what is but rather simply your perspective based on your experience. Otherwise I'm calling you on the authority and if your information is casual information i'm pointing it out. It doesn't seem to me like it should be a point of friction for people who consider themselves more than casual fans. If anything you lot should be glad someone came along to give you a kick in the ass because you are lazy fans not students of the sport and clearly have a desire to be. Stop fighting it and let's make this forum a ****in' boxing encyclopedia that makes all others appear like they were written by a bunch of new GF's who knows jack**** about your favourite sport, but pretends to like it.

What do those events have to do with boxing?

I agree with CST80 that a fighters monetary value is a mixture of things: talking on the mic, their skill level, their style, their look etc.

Saying that hate is what sells fights is just not true imo

Did hate sell Pac vs May or Canelo vs May? not to me, and not to anyone I talk to; there was interest to see who would win between 2 great fighters.

It even seems that when there's genuine hate involved in an event it might actually be a detriment to the $$$.

The majority of fans who use this site come here to read up on current events, not fights in the 1700's, which only fanatical fans such as yourself read up on. Having this extra knowledge of boxing wisdom does give you an advantage when discussing these fights with fellow fanatics, which are very rare in the world of boxing. Like I'm a fan of boxing, but don't know anything about pre-war stuff, does that make my point in upcoming fights irrelevant in the grand scheme of things because fanatics may have a more historical knowledge than me, nah, it really dosen't. Do I need to research up on these pre-war fights to become more aware about the sport of boxing, not in current events, no.

"Lazy fans" , what authority do you have exactly to call anybody on here "Lazy"? What, you read a book from 1850 and expect everybody to have read it? As I said earlier, fanatical fans are a rarity, so stop being annoyed there isen't as many fanatical fans as you desire. In fact, if you want more fans to read about your "research" go make some threads about it, and discuss your extended knowledge instead of picking apart somebody else's well thought-out out threads.
