    Nowadays boxing isn't even that.

At the highest level, often it just some mouthy ***** talking about who's he's going to fight and who he can beat, then spending 9 months of the year enjoying the high life and coming into the ring once or twice a year to fight someone who everyone knows he can beat anyway.

Put one of your mates in with an 10 wins, 10 losses amateur boxer and see if they can last one round without being ko'd, made to feel like a ***** and possibly not land a punch cleanly.

A lot of Brit's tend to be of the idea that if a guy punches kids and beats them up on the street then he'll be a good boxer, but its not the case.

Or even with a novice with just a few months sparring experience.

TBH getting them in the ring would be the best way for them to appreciate boxing. They'll soon find out it's not just 2 people throwing punches.

For me this sums up Boxing perfectly...:yep

Boxing is a science, the study of a lifetime, in which you may exhaust yourself, but never your subject.

It is a contest, a duel calling for skill and self-control. It is a test of temper, a trial of honour.

It affords the chance to play the man and act the gentleman. It provides not only physical health, but natural force.

It includes companionship with friends and opportunities to excel in your chosen sport.

So go to it you would-be champions, may you enjoy every moment of your chosen sport:- But remember we cannot all be champions.

Boxing is the ultimate sport. Always has been, always will be.

Top boxers are the ultimate athletes, the guts and dedication it takes to step in a ring knowing the other guy is going to try and hurt you is enough in itself.
