This is boxings best year in at least 5, big fights are being made, and the UFC as competation is pushing boxing to make these fights. I am a very big UFC fan, but there is still nothing better in the world then a back in forth war in boxing.

The UFC has evolved massively. Gracie was an expert in BJJ and nothing else. Todays fighters are well versed in wrestling, BJJ, Maui Thai and Boxing. They have to be complete fighters to have any sort of chance. He fought Matt Hughes, the current welter weight champ (at the time) a couple years back and got thoroughly dominated from start to finish (as brief as it was). Its a totally different game. Because guys learned how to defend the takedown now much better, the stand up is a MUCH more important element.

    Kind of ironic actually.
As far as I know, the UFC was basically established to showcase the Gracie bjj. Now they've been overtaken at their own game.

Absolutely no need for this thread, this is the type of stupid **** that leads to hating on MMA.

Both sports are great, how you can't like both if you like one is beyond comprehension.

Yeah, I agree. It just promotes antagonism.
Personally, I get into all forms of fighting - Muay Thai, K-1, UFC...hell, even Sumo.
Obviously my fave is boxing, but I can respect the other sports too.

Boxing is in no more competition with UFC than it was with football or basketball...in fact boxing is probably in more competition with basketball, because I think more would-be top American fighters end up playing that sport rather than boxing.

UFC has a niche, good for them! But that has nothing to do with boxing. Boxing always has fans and to be honest it is a more exciting sport. People want to see someone hit in the mouth, not a couple of guys mounting eachother for position. Its not crowd pleasing. Most of the people watching UFC, are watching for the striking in hopes that someone gets knocked out.

BTW, that UFC card from Saturday was some of the most boring action I have seen!
