All the UFC properties have been declining since 2010, When a WWE star was propping up the whole company. Since he left, PPV's, tuf ratings and ticket sales have declined. Brazil the ufc's last hot market is cooling off. http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2013/4/3...-brazil-cancelled-nogueira-vs-werdum-mma-news
I imagine there comes a point where MMA fans realise it isn't what it's cracked up to be. I can just picture a few guys watching an MMA card, seeing their heroes rolling around on the mat together (possibly aroused) and then looking at each other uncomfortably 'It's a bit gay this, isn't it?' 'Yea, I suppose so' 'Do you want to put the boxing back on' 'Go on then'
I get what you're saying but most real fights without weapons go to ground very quickly. Any barroom brawl I've ever seen looks nothing like a John Wayne movie where dudes throw roundhouse punches at each other until the lesser man falls down. MMA fighting is a much more realistic take on real-world fighting than boxing could ever be. Once you're taken off your feet by some punk in a bar who fancies your girlfriend you better be able to "ground and pound."
lets be honest though, if you were to choose between two guys, one an untrained random bar room guy vs a well conditioned boxer/kickboxer. Both guys are similar in size, obviosly the more athletic guy. Its not a sure fire way to always win but if its a street fight, groin shots, eye gouging and other dirty tactics are allowed. MMA is closer to realistic but its only about a larger fraction of street fighting than what boxing is.
Yeah, I was careful to take weapons out of the equation. As for eye gouging and groin shots. Those areas are not as easy to get to as most think. Eyes are recessed behind brow ridges and men naturally protect their testicles in a fight. It's almost automatic reaction. My Dad, rest his soul who was a boxing instructer in the army in WW2 told me go for the nose first as it sticks out from the face and is easy to break and hurts like hell. Next, for the Adam's apple in the throat--again it protrudes and so is easy to hit. MMA is not street-fighting but is much closer to real-world fighting than boxing. Sugar Ray Leonard was one of the greatest athletic boxers of all time but if he fought GSP in a bar he would be taken down and submitted. It might be a little on the gay side as a previous poster suggested but GSP would walk away the victor IMO.
Realistically they would be putting on the footy or soccer rather than tune into boxing...Boxing is a very dead sport in australia... Its interesting you say that fans realise its not what its cracked up to be, couldnt we say the same about boxing :think
Last few UFC cards I have watched (mostly the free ones on Fox or Fuel or whatever channel) have been boring with non competitive fights. I just can't get past the 'Pro Wrestling' type environment the UFC has created in their production. It would be cool if I was a 13 year old but as an adult it is silly. Basically I only watch MMA to see Glass Jaws get shattered.
The major problem for the UFC has been they have oversaturated the market with far too many cards and with doing that they have made at least 80% of their cards weaker.
To the hardcore fans like us this is true, however putting on a lot of cards thrusts it into the mainstream a lot more than just having ppvs every so often. People to on about ratings goi g down but here's a shitload more cards now, it makes sense that not as many ppl are gonna flock to the tv every single time a fights on. If Floyd fought every couple weeks it'd be the same thing.
:good I got a couple of casual-fan mates, and three more who are turning into actual fans. To the casuals, one non-title fight is the same as another until they've seen a few guys fight a couple of times each. Belfort-Rockhold is the same as Machida-Hendo. They just want to see a good fight, and a good fight can come from anywhere regardless of the names. (****, 90% of the roster will put on a better show than Hendo and Machida.) :hat
