Boxing Is Throwing Its Momentum Away From 2007

    Mayweather vs DLH and Cotto vs Gomez.

    Two **** fights. One which is a repeat or worse of a boring over hyped fight from last year, and one severe misuse of a near prime fighter in Cotto.

    All parties except Gomez should be ashamed. Yes, DLH vs PBF will do big money, but in the long run it will hurt the sport as it keeps the biggest fight in boxing from taking place.

    I know what I'm going to hear- that its just business. In business you sometimes have to sacrifice short gain for long investment. Cotto vs Floyd is the best fight in boxing, and introduces Cotto to the mainsteam while creating a bigger star out of Mayweather by promoting the allure of a P4P champion that takes dangerous young comers. Its best for boxing in the long run, while DLH vs Mayweather is better for those two fighters only. Pay attention boxing fans, both DLH and Mayweather are selling out both you as fans and the sport as a whole.

    Cotto-Mayweather is what we all want, but at the very least Gomez has that little extra mainstream attention that could give Cotto a few more fans and notoriety, which in turn makes him a bit more attractive in the $ department for a fight with Mayweather.

    This year may end with a unified heavyweight title, we got Haye-Mac coming up, then Marquez-Pacman, with Pavlik-Taylor before that. Things are fine.

    I agree mate the first PBFM/ODLH was shite, the second will be worse.

    its not throwing its momentum at all we've already had a really good fight in Ngoudjo vs Malignaggi. Now Pavlik vs Taylor II, Vasquez vs Marquez, and Pacquiao vs Marquez are all extremely good rematches between top fighters. Also Judah vs Margarito, Haye vs Maccarinelli are good fights. There are alot more but his is just to name a few.

    Cotto will probably fight 4 times this year so it doesn't bother me to see him in there against Gomez

    I dont think some of you are understanding me. Its not good enough to just point out a few good fights we have this year and say that boxing is ok... we have always had a few good fights a year.

    Im talking about superfights, and Im talking about the best fighters in the sport taking eachother on consistantly. Boxing gained lots of recognition last year and now some of the principle attractions are flunking.

    Indeed. Mayweather is the face of boxing. It's whom he fights that defines boxing to the general public.

    Not if you consider Mayweather vs Cotto to be the best fight in boxing.

    Mayweather fights in November... its not as if he will turn around and fight Cotto in December.

    A huge fight was on the table, and its gone for 2008.

    Good post... but lets not forget that we still have judah vs margarito, marquez vs vasquez 3, Jmm vs Pac, JC vs Hopkins, wlad vs sultan (for unification)


    The only real dissapointment is mayweather and cotto not fighting eachother...

    Yes, coupled with the fights they are taking in its place. Two non factors in the deepest division in boxing.

    2007 was a great year and it was expected that 2008 was going to be not so great. Things reach their peak and then decrease. I am not surprised.
