Boxing journeymen

Without journeyman, boxing would cease to be a professional sport. They are necessary and should be acknowledged as important.

 

I have the utter most respect for these guys, boxing needs them. I do think they should have more medical checks reason being some fight every week, so compaired to the average prosect fighting maybe every 6/8 weeks they should be checked on maybe 2/3 times a year brain scan etc.

 

I'm a fan of Daniil Peretyatko. Saw him fight Dave Ferguson and Larry Olubamiwo. Upset Olubamiwo, was surprised. Was the first fight I ever watched ringside, Larry looked in sensational shape and Peret just... didn't. Couldn't believe my eyes when he started lashing him.

 

I don't get this thread, people moan that prospects aren't brought on quick enough but then at same time people are saying journeymen are an important part of the sport.

IMO there is too many journeymen in the sport and if there were less, we would see more matchups like Smith v DeGale more often which would get fans buzzing.

 

Holds a win over Omar Sheikh and at one point had the most wins of any active british fighter.

 

Journeymen have different skills sets and levels same as top fighters do, the problem is (moloney and hennesey hang your heads in shame) when the journeymen from latvia are drafted over and are easily pushed over, times this by 10-15 fights to pad a record, just ask vinnie mitchell what a decent journeyman can do :good

 

I like (and respect a lot) the journeymen that come to win..... Peret has knocked over a couple, Lee Swaby always used to be competitive, Tony Booth obviously.

It's these Eurobums and the ones that just come to hear the final bell so they can do it all over again that I can't bring myself to respect too much.

I really don't see why promoters use them, it's not a test, the prospect doesn't learn anything etc etc etc.
