The nineteen year old 5'11" hometown prospect (Kiev native, currently 5-0 since debuting in the middle of the pandemic, July of 2020) is taking a step up in opposition experience if not class here against tough Moldovan-Romanian journeyman Gratii, who is 7-18-1 and has never been stopped.

    Round 1

Shtonda is circling wide, throwing jabs and loose flurries, prioritizing speed & volume and not really sitting down on anything, nor closing his fists all the way. Gratii keeps high-blocking and bending at the knees to swoop inside, coming up from the deep squat throwing jabs or chopping rights. Shtonda evading and replying with pivot hooks and straight flurries, his punching technique okay aside from the open gloves, but just point-scoring and not putting much on his shots, with some obvious amateur habits still lingering.

    10-9 Shtonda

    Round 2

Shtonda is doubling up on hooks to Gratii's body jumping in, and staying upright to make Gratii lunge up and miss with line drive rights. Shtonda delivering lean-away counter uppercuts while standing tall. Shtonda is waiting for Gratii to walk in, collecting his tomahawk combos up top against the outer edge of his forearms, then countering with left hooks while pulling his neck and head straight backward. Shtonda is moving counter-clockwise, then gradually cutting in, popping a few jabs off Gratii's nose and then going diagonally away and counter clockwise. Leaping left hook, RJJ style by Shtonda from outside, doubling up on it as Gratii shells up. Gratii then tries his own version of it but can't reach Shtonda's lofty chin. Hard counter right by Shtonda as Gratii ducks in.

    10-9 Shtonda

    20-18 Shtonda

    Round 3

Shtonda is erecting himself to full height, jabbing down into Gratii's body and baiting the lead from him. Gratii rolls up some big shots but Shtonda back-steps and counters with jabs or hooks. Shtonda is just narrowly avoiding taking a receipt in some of these swap meets, Gratii's hooks up top coming very close to scoring. Gratii tries switching to southpaw. He succeeds in landing a few right jabs on the body of a slightly disarmed Shtonda, but the younger man quickly adjusts to finish the round prancing around him landing jabs & hooks again.

    10-9 Shtonda

    30-27 Shtonda

    Round 4

Shtonda is navigating around Gratii, tapping him above his right ear with left hooks and then marching him down with jabs and 1-2s. Gratii has gone southpaw again, darting in erratically with high straight combos overhead and then changing to a burrowing attack on the body once inside. Shtonda manages to create distance and stamp his jab into Gratii's forehead while smacking him with wide lead left hooks when he gets an extra step on him.

    10-9 Shtonda

    40-36 Shtonda

    Round 5

Shtonda is experimenting with combinations, putting uppercus and hooks together as he senses that he can do what he likes with Gratii and maybe go for the finish. Gratii refuses to comply, rattling home with stray missiles on the hairline of Shtonda coming up from a shelled crouch, and tying up around the middle after getting his shots off. Shtonda is tied up with Gratii's left arm wrapped around his waist above the liver, while Gratii's right fist bangs into Shtonda's opposite armpit. Lots of grappling and jerking each other bodily around the ring from both, falling into the ropes until ordered to let go by the ref. Shoeshine on the body at the bell from Shtonda.

    10-9 Shtonda, close

    50-45 Shtonda

    Round 6

Shtonda is reaching down and scoopping in left hooks into Gratii's body while circling wide, then pulling his upper body straight back on an incline to slip Gratii's ground-to-air fire. Shtonda using both hands well to avoid fatiguing either arm, waiting and picking his spots when Gratii comes to him, playing around with different combinations and learning what does and doesn't work. Gratii following, punching up, grabbing to clinch, and overall just giving Shtonda the mildest of difficulties while doing his unofficial job of stretching him the distance for his professional development.

    10-9 Shtonda

    60-54 Shtonda

Not a bad outing for a 6th in the pros, there's some raw material there in Bohdan for him to maybe have some promise down the road aways.

His brother Valentyn, another unbeaten prospect (a southpaw campaigning at supposedly "lightweight" - although he is yet to ever make the limit, coming in at least a few ounces above 135lb if not above 136 for each of his four contests so far) also fought on the undercard, handily outpointing Tsotne Sultanishvili via UD6 and dropping the Georgian once via slashing right hook on the neck sneaking past his guard. That fight starts at 3 hours and 9 minutes into the video.

Make a mental note on both the Shtonda brothers; no guarantee of either making it but I see a little something in each of them.
