Yes that is true and the procedure for turning pro as i know it is a local bbbofc officer comes down watches you in training and sparring and then you have a meeting at the headquarters a medical and a interview and that's where they tell you the boxer the pitfalls and the difficulties and dangers of the sport and basically telling the boxer all they need to know before turning pro.

Yeah it's madness but in a strange way it seems to develop them better rather then these really long amateur careers into there late twenty's. I suppose because they learn pro game more learning the tricks the moves old pros use on them.

In them countries it's ''if you good enough your old enough'' and ''how else you gonna eat tonight''. This country we protect our young fighters a lot more.

yes, 18 is the age. if you got am fights they let you turn pro. if you are inexperienced, they ask to see you spar and make sure you know what you are doing.

A friend of mine has his Dads old license from the BBBofC saying he's now free to take any fight but to make sure he doesn't fight any 15 rounders until after his 18th birthday!!!!

Not sure of any changes but it used to be the BBB of C ruling that you weren't allowed to box for the British title until you were 21 years old.
I'm also in favour that a boxer shouldn't be eligable to box for a world title unless they have won a British title first.

I don't see how the second part is enforcable. The days of the BBBofC being the unquestioned lawmakers is long gone. Theres human rights legislation, restraint of trade legislation etc.

Absolutely, I agree with you and fully understand the situation. I'm just dreaming about an "ideal world" that's all. :D

Appleby won the British Featherweight title at 20, making him I believe the youngest ever British Featherweight champion.
