Working my @ss off in the hot sun today. Been listening to these and quite liking them... John Conteh and John Scully so far. The guy does a good job. Recommended. If you're already a listener, any fave episodes I should prioritize?
I went along to the Cafe/Royal in London's West End in 74 I think, to watch Conteh working out before his world title attempt against Jorge Aumahda , did all the groundwork, skipping, bag punching, etc then came the sparring ( what we all had come to see ) let me tell ya, it was frighting , Conteh didn't hold back, he was vicious, loading up on his punches, letting rip to the body, you could hear the punches going in believe, he really beat up ( and knocked down ) a mediocre LH of the time named Johnny Wall, must have been some bad blood because Wall took a beating. At the time I wasn't sure Conteh was ready for Aumahda, who had a close fight against Galindez not too long before, but after the way he dealt out punishment to the hired help, he convinced me he could and would, win the world title fight. Shame he lost his way, sacked all the team that got him to the top, including George Francis who was the only man that could wrap Johns hands to keep them from breaking, and then handed over all his affairs to his some what shady brothers, had he not, I think he would have poss been a ATG.
