    Boxing is loosing because most of the big fights are PPV'ed and the economy sux nowadays.

    Still some people doesn't bother about the economy they either still pay the PPV or watch live streams somewhere for free.

    Anybody that's been paying attention for the last couple of years knows that MMA is much more popular in north america than boxing.

    Still, it's shocking to see how quickly it's overtaken the sweet science. There are 3000+ Sherdog members online right now on thanksgiving day. That's probably many more posters that are on right now on the top 5 boxing forums combined.

    Boxing, already a niche sport, will continue to fade as long as the PPV madness and alphabet soup belts persist.

    I agree 100%. And both of the above are due to the fact that every fighter wants as much money as possible. Every fighter and promoter wants the big bucks even if we as fans don't think a certain fight warrants PPV status. And on the ohter hand, you got the alphabet titles wich are just as money hungry and come up with new champ titles and ridiculous rules wich makes boxing very unappealing to people trying to get into boxing.

    I can't seem to get many of my freinds into it. They're either under the dillusion that UFC is more exciting or have some bizarre bias towards fighting styles that involve dressing up in gay pajamas and chanting (karate, judo etc.).

    respect all those thoughts...but i am of the view that boxing and mma/ufc shouldnt be compared in any area...
    to me it's like comparing snooker and soccer...both are sports in their own right, but yet completely different...you wouldnt hear snooker players complaining about soccer getting more coverage than them...its a bad comparison, but the only thing that boxing and mma/ufc have in common is that they are combat sports...like boxing v karate...i dont think boxing fans should be concerned in the least what mma/ufc does in the way of ppv or popularity...best of luck to them, but its not to be compared with boxing...
    just my opinion...{and reading back its a bit arkwardly put}

    I hate these comparisons.. 2 different sports. Ive ordered every UFC and major boxing PPV in the last 10 years or so. What I can say is that boxing has been outstanding the past 2 years or so while in the meantime, Ive been getting bored with MMA. Mind you, this is coming from a huge mma fan who has followed UFC, Pride, Shooto, Pancrase, KOTC, JungleFight and other countless smaller North American, Japanese, Brazilian orgs, NOT just UFC as most of you here. As much as they try to proclaim it as the next big thing, I think its been in a little bit of a decline. Just my opinion in the quality of fights of a fan and NOT ppv numbers.

    The HW division? absolutley yes, however I highly doubt boxing on the whole has declined soley because of Lennox retiring. :nut

    Manny and DLH will do a miliion maybe. But it is an anomoly. One fight per year that Oscar is in. Boxing really is sliding fast and hard in North America otherwise.

    Boxing has gotten the bad reputation of having boring fights. I am a huge boxing fan as well as a huge MMA fan. To get my buddies to come over for a PPV for boxing though is unreal, Even though Boxing has had some great match ups this year.

    I think the boxers have gotten too selfish and worried too much about there pockets being full rather than having good quality fights in the past. I am glad to be able to say that that is seriously changing and great fights are happening.

    I am now able to be excited for almost every weekend because there is either a good MMA match or a good Boxing match, so I am loving it.

    If your worried about the PPV's costing too much invite 3 or 4 friends over to your place and your set, it will cost you like $10, thats a pretty cheap Saturday for myself....
