Just reading an old Harry Mullan editorial (Britain's Boxing News), and he had a theory about boxing fans getting more cynical as they got older. So as a whole (today and yesteryear) what is overall opinion of the sport? Read carefully before answering, shame I did not, before pisting!
JUst because nobody has yet - it's been since the night of McGuigan-Pedroza until now - and I am just completely obsessed with boxing - just love it - there is nothing like it sports wise - boxing is just awesome and the history? well - and this Forum??!! And all you guys???!!! I love you all man!!!! No I mean it!!? It's true!!
I admire your spirit, it is people like you who keep this sport upright, whilst the likes of myself try to make it take a standing eight.
Love it for Duran/Leonard 1 , Pacman/JJM , Floyd/ Coralles etc... Hate it for Floyd/JJM , Haye/ K Bros , Aussie boxing (Mundine/Green) etc...
I got to agree with Mullan; sadly I fear you and Cat_funt will be lost to the game soon. Your eyes have been opened to the dark side of the sport too soon!
Hope not, I have grown to love this sport, but will not be taken for a fool, so I will buy the good PPV and boxers carrer sets, but not the ****ed up cards like Floyd vs JJM.
To a point I was damn lucky that as an 10 year old, I got to go to see that bout. But much like being a Liverpool fan, I got to see the dizzy heights of the sport far too soon, and thus sadly did not really apreciate what I was seeing. Hindsight is a *****, and I so yearn for them days, when boxing created national (mainstream) heroes.
love the sport, HATE the fans. honestly, fans are whats killing the sport. nobody cheers on fighters anymore, all fighters are ridiculed for the dumbest reasons for fighting certain comp, not getting into unnecessary slugfests (the running label), dont have mike tyson like punching power or a marvin hagler chin. i mean im as far from a klischko fan as you can get, but even i think once in a while the hate they receive is somewhat unwarranted. you cant go on ANY youtube boxing vid without seeing some flame war started by a couple of dumb asses. on ESB you cant at all voice your opinion without being ridiculed. so basically, if 75% of the boxing community can grow a brain then it can be more of an appreciated sport.
Love the history, love the buildups to great fights, fights when they are great, love the effort and sacrifice made by the fighters. Hate the boxing politics, organizations, corrupt rankings, and generally the way the powers that be allow boxing to shoot itself in the foot. I hate this part of it so much that I've recently been tempted to leave boxing behind.
After 20 some odd years of enjoying the sport, am at the hate stage now.The lack of 15 rounds, too many organizations, and Floyd Mayweather Jr, enough is enough.
I've been a fan for less than a decade and I really really love it. It is in serious deadly need of reform though and the problems are so obvious that anyone can see it.
