Hello, I'm doing a journalism dissertation on the lack of media coverage in boxing compared to how it used to be. Just wondered what people put it down to; Lack of personality in the sport, big fights not happening regularly etc. your thoughts would be appreciated. thanks
Are you talking about American coverage? The US. media IMO, cover the lower weight divisions the same as ever. BUT the media has been ignoring everything from LHW to HW. Probably because there's too many fighters from 175lbs and up that are "winning while white."
Lack of media execs who have real knowledge of the sport or who actually followed it. Being it that it hasn't been on TV for decades, there's no mentor ship for media execs in this sport. So it's devoid of growth or change in the print, broadcast media.
