Did you have to wait for them to remove their mouths from Ali's balls before they gave that answer?

You say 1/3 of Reporters gave it to louis...but that still means 2/3 gave it to walcott. One must take into fact most did NOT like walcott and his "cute" unrespected style, while Louis was a big popular favorite among the press. I think the fact the biased reporters still had walcott winning despite being huge louis fans shows you how clearly louis lost.

I am disturbed on how much you always degrade this. John Garfield, who was LIVE RINGSIDE of Louis-Walcott I, and who himself was a HUGE joe louis fan, said it was one of the worst decisions he had ever seen and that everyone in the audience booed because they knew who won. Now I take the word on a unbiased man LIVE at ringside, over yours. SORRY. That is my source, and he is a good one.

Joe Louis himself admitted he lost. When asked about Referee Ruby Goldsteins scorecard of 7-6-2 for Walcott, Louis replied "I know Rube, he calls em like he sees em."

Louis Lost...the decision was terrible. Louis got knocked down twice, outboxed, outsmarted, and outbedazzled. I mean outside of round 9, louis did not have any good rounds....It was a clear 10-5 Decision for Walcott. Watch the highlights of every round, its all there. Walcott said when he went out for the 15th, his corner told him he had already locked up at least 10 rounds so all he had to do was run away.

Your wrong. John Garfield sat LIVE at ringside for Louis-Walcott I and himself scored the bout overwhelmingly for Jersey Joe Walcott. He happened to be a big joe louis fan, so him scoring the bout overwhelming for Walcott means only one thing.

Well there are three of us in this thread who have seen the highlihgts and see no advantage for one man or the other.

Ten proffessional reporters and two proffessional judges found for Louis.

God bless John Garfield, but i'm not basing my appraisal upon his testimony.

Sounds/LOOKS like a very close fight. Champion got the nod. Happens.

Even Louis apologized as he left the ring.

I remember Richie Woodhall doing the same against Glenn Catley

    Pure class...

    As for my picks:

    1 Everett/Escalera
    2 Whitaker/RamirezI
    3 Holmes/SpinksII
    4 Whitaker/Chavez
    5 Hardy/BelcastroI

Good post all round, I was thinking maybe I was too biased towards Zarate thinking it was a robbery going in (not something I'd usually do but hey, I was young ) totally forgot about the KD, but the fight is just 'cagey' in general. Not enough explosiveness, but then again both guys were past prime.

****, I forgot about that fight. I thought that was a flagrant robbery as well. I believe I had Everett winning at least 9, maybe 10 rounds.

Poor Everett. The guy was a very obvious talent. Not only was he robbed in his own hometown, he was robbed of having the chance to win a rematch, and of his whole career/life in general.

I will stick to ones were one guy won by a big margin & wasnt given the victory (so no `cry baby`s in close fights` carry on like SRL/MMH or DLH/Pea Im afraid).....

    Lewis-Holyfield I
    Whitaker-Chavez
    Sturm-DLH
    Whitaker-Ramirez I
    ---------------------------

& to a lesser extent but still quite bad.....

    DLH-Mosely II
    Morales-Barrera II

    Botswana :smoke

I'd say Zarate was damaged post-Gomez.

Pintor clearly had more left I ****ed my dates up! I always thought Pintor-Gomez was just after the Zarate fight, which still doesn't give me much leverage as Pintor was pretty sensational in that fight.

As I always do when I make a mistake, unlike some, I put my hands up and admit it :happy :good

Just rewatched Sturm-De La Hoya and had it 116-112 for Oscar. Close fight but not a robbery. For every clean punch that Sturm landed to the head of DLH, Oscar would connect 3 body shots...does people doesnt count body punches anymore??? Norton also landed astonishing amount of blows to Ali's body and had him clearly winning ale 3 fights...

Did anyone know the list from BM January 1988 issue?

I have not seen the entire fight and am not coming down in favour of Louis here but I wonder if the decision was perhaps not as far off as somtimes portrayed, especialy under the conventions of the period.

Louis did land more punches than Walcott acording to the New York Times and he forced the fight which was favoured more heavily then than now.

I suspect that Walcott would have got it if the fight had taken place today given honest judging but that in that era awarding the fight to Louis fell within what could be regarded as honest judging.

Gans vs McGovern is disputed in a different context - as in was it a dive

surely this counts as this oculd possibly be the best win ever in boxing.

There both good friends of mine & very highly respected boxing officials. I have been a Deacon in my church for well over 20 years and I find your words to be in very bad taste.

To say that about Greats as Mercante and Lederman is shameful to say the lease. I just hope you were joking, BUT even if you were, it's a very bad joke.
