Bit of inexperience in the current LMW list.

 

A lot of these fighters are getting sold short, based on their resume, which is understandable but makes this one sided. If it was 1993 and you looked at the middleweights, people like Jones and Hopkins wouldn't be considered close to Hagler. So much can happen in a career, you just can't do this fairly. Hindsight plays too big a factor.

The idea that Martinez wouldn't make the top 10 back then, is ludicrous and proves my point. In 10 years time, he will seem superior to the active top dog and in another 10 years, people will think their current champion is inferior too.

I understand where you are coming from but too much if this is based around what they did after 1993.

Tougher. Boudouani and Danials would go on to be very good fighters. Vasquez despite his fairly moderate record was a huge one shot KO artist. And Norris was p4p one of the best of all time for me. Despite his **** chin.

That said Norris was fallable and i'd take Williams to give him hell. Cotto too would be in with a shot though Norris would outbox him I feel. After that although the division is deep its a very tough call. Thoughts anyone --- I'll continue tomorrow evening!

 

Theres a lot to that, we're seeing a lot of names we recognise in the 1993 list without looking at what the actual situation was in 1993 with these guys careers.

I think we're right on the score, but, as Jack says, Martinez not getting in the 1993 top 10 shows a certain bias in how we're judging this IMHO.

 

Jack I totally agree. Its more for fun then anything and the likes of Sechew Powell etc are likely to increase their legacies greatly over the coming years. However- its good comparing. I seriously don't think Martinez would stand much of a chance with many in that top ten. McClelon, Jones, Jackson, Hopkins, Collins, Kalambay????

Anyhow I understand there is a floor and out current guys are big underdogs considering were judging complete resumes against those still a work in progress. :good Please join in.

I'm not sure why McClellan's held in such high esteem. He has a decent record, but the wins over Jackson are fairly blunted by the fact Jackson was near blind in the ring. Considering those are his calling cards and that he lost badly to two very average fighters... I can't say he'd be far superior to Martinez. Martinez has the movement, aggression and under-rated power to smash McClellan up.

 

But I would agree that the current MW division is very thin.
