if boxing is going to survive in this century the current fight card system must change. we have got to have cards similar to the UFC/WWF (i know the latter is a joke but it keeps on thriving).

There has got to be more than one interesting fight on each card. we must have at least 4 quality/interesting bouts on each card. thats why the ufc and the wwf are succesful

the sport is going to self destruct if things keep on going the way they are. there is going to be a seroius shortage of talent getting into the sport.

    I totally disagree.

Competitive main events - like those we say in 2007 and are continuing to see in 2008 - are the key. Strong undercards would be nice, but certainly aren't going to "save the sport".

The WWF has never effected boxing and that has been arounf for donkeys. The UFC is doing exceedingly well, but boxing hasnt suffered, we are coming off a great 2007.

All we need is a exciting heavyweight to be the face of the sport and then the worry that boxing fans are feeling right now will fade away!

us boxing fans are happy right now but what about the all the people that don't follow boxing, that think its on its ass, the young kids coming up. in britain, boxing is going through a boom but i am really worried about the state of the sport in the USA

WE NEED MORE MEGAFIGHTS ON THE BIG MAINSTREAM EVENTS LIKE DLH V PBF, PBF V HATTON & LAST WEEKS EVENT

PEOPLE NEED TO BE MADE AWARE OF THE GREAT TALENT OUT THERE. NOBODY IS GOING TO GAIN INTEREST IN GREAT BOUTS WITH FIGHTERS THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF

There is a huge Cruiserwieght "Unification" between WBC,WBA champion David Haye and WBO champion Enzo Macrrinelli happening next week at the
    O2 arena in London.

In Britain at least it is a megafight.

the big fights have got to start producing some electricity and some of these fighters have got to inspire the fans. Boring slapfests and safety first bouts that disappoint for 50 and 60 dollars a pop, These fights have got to entertain like they used to.

That Klitchko vs Ibragimov debacle, the PBF vs DLH sparring session was a big disappiontment and now a rematch? Hatton ducking Witter.......guys fighting setups and padding their records and good fighters being avoided example PBF avoiding Cotto. thats whats killing boxing.

The MMA with tough guy weekend warriors are spilling over and if their bouts are exciting and provide greater entertainment and thrills. Remember no one has ever lost money underestimating the intelligence of the American people. The MMA with its bull**** will become greater while Boxing diminishes if boxing doesnt get their act together.

UFC is a promotional company and will lose it control over the market, They are simply not paying there fighters the right money it will destroy them and boxing is a wide world sport, not just USA there is money ever where and if you are good enough, you can become a very rich man.

As a poster a few months ago told me in another thread, Boxing has become more globally popular, which means Boxing is bigger now than ever, unfortunately the United States is one of the exceptions. I wish we could have the great 90's Heavyweights back, it was a time were the belt holders actually had alot talent and fought like warriors, too bad now all we get is glorified sparring sessions or talentless slugfests, that make you think "Where have all the good times gone".

Boxing is alive and well -- its more popular than its ever been. If we could find a legit HW champion then we wouldn't be talking about this

You can definitely implement WWF gimmicks to make boxing more exciting, compelling and absolutely ridiculous. Here are some:

    1. Tag team boxing: Imagine if you could have two excellent boxers team up to fight two other excellent boxers. When one gets tired or gets in a jam, he can tag his partner who would come flying into the ring. Also while the tag is happening, both partners can get get shots. Gives new meaning to the idea of the double left hook. We could do Team Goldenboy (De La Hoya/Mosley) against Team Peurto Rico (Cotto/Trinidad).

    2. Handicapped boxing matches: I don't think I could watch a boring ass heavyweight like Shannon Briggs fight or two weak Flyweights with no power fight (Ivan Calderon and Ulises Solis). But I would definately be interested if two weak fisted but fast featherweights took on a slow heavyweight. Who would win and how. Again, Gives new meaning to the idea of the double left hook.

    3. Battle Royals: Let's settle who's the best welterweight by just throwing them all in the same ring. Whoever is left standing is the real champ. Let's see Mayweather's defense against 10 jabs at the same time.

All of this is absolutely crazy but I guess I would pay to see any of this and so would the rest of the world.

i am not saying boxing needs to copy the craziness of the wwf (it would help if we had more colourful characters though). the point i was making is wwf cards always have 2 or 3 interesting bouts for their fans. its never just a one bout show

do you know how popular boxing was years ago? it had major press coverage. the mainstream public knew about most of the champions and contender. golden gloves and amateur tournaments were covered by the popular press. can you say that nowadays?

it has gained popularity in some quarters of the world and lost it in equal proportions
