Boxing Myths That Need to Die ASAP

That Armstrong would've won a forth title if it weren't for the draw in the Garcia rematch. Nobody considered that fight for the title, although most did consider Garcia the best middleweight. Sorta like when GGG was seen as the best middleweight but wasn't lineal champion, imagine that but with no alphabet titles.

The idea that Sanchez was gonna get better and better. If anything, I'd imagine he was going to decline or retire.

 

Don't know if this is the right context of 'myth', but "you have to rip the belt away from the champion, you can't edge it", does my head in when people say that

 

That fighters have to go out on their shield or be willing to die in the ring.

 

That there are “weight bullies” in a sport with weight classes or that the bigger/longer guy always has an advantage.

Oh, and the dumbest myth of all: that certain races are predisposed to a certain style of boxing (all black fighters are “slick,” all Mexicans come forward, etc.).

 

That is kinda true though, the bigger guy with longer reach will have a advantage. “Weight bullies” is silly though, everyone have the same “advantage” as long as they weigh in at the same weight.

 

It's not true, some fighters have susceptibilities to guys who are smaller and can get inside their reach. Ali and Usyk for instance.

 

The notion of the lucky punch.

 

Casuals have many totally wrong opinions about Ali and Tyson, the two most well known boxers of all time. Probably because they've never even watched a full fight of theirs.

Weight bullies aren't a myth, go watch Broner beating on midgets back in his 130/35 days. PDL still beat him though lol.

 

A big myth i see casuals say is Mike Tyson would've beat Buster Douglas if Cus D'Amato didn't die, even though he died before Tyson won his first world title. Its funny. Well no its not. RIP Cus but Mike Tyson is kind of overrated. Dont get me wrong he was an absolute monster and an ATG but people make him out to be some god who folded all of his opponents in 1 round and that he was 10 times better than Ali. Nah.

People also say Holyfield and Lewis ducked Mike Tyson in his prime. Holyfield wanted the fight before Tyson went to prison and Lewis hadn't even turned pro yet until after 1988.

Agreed, if you’re the champ you’re meant to be the best, if you beat the champ you are the champ regardless of how it’s done

 

Sal had the same amount of fights as Canelo at that age. It's possible that he could've won a few more big fights. There's no basis on whether he would or wouldn't.

 

I think it's possible when you're going for broke. Everyone gets lucky at some point.
