That Ali was getting killed against Foreman, was losing every round and was on the verge of being knocked out until Foreman gassed out and collapsed. Very common narrative in most retellings of their fight. In reality, Ali won most rounds, actually staggered him some time in, I believe the third and never looked in any real danger.
Zach Clayton 68-66 | Nourridine Adalla 70-67 | James Taylor 69-66 i remember watching it for the first time and being like: "Wtf? Ali is the one ouboxing Foreman." Dude was landing clean right hands from the opening round.
Ali looked composed but some of the shots really hurt him and heavy shots were landing on his gloves, other fighters would have wilted, Foreman landed well to the body also.
That Quarry was some typ of "uncrowned champion" that didn't get the chance to with then title. Same with Cleveland Williams. Add that Liston was "ducked for years" and peaked in '58 (same year he came out of prison). That Tyson was past prime after Spinks. That Robinson ducked Burley. Those are the ones that immediately come to mind.
Most likely yeah, gas tank looked not good even for 8 round fight if I will be honest. From these WBSS1 fighters not " old " maybe is Dorticos and ofc course Gassiev cos he was young then. This was the hell of boxing. Dorticos doesn't looks that had injuries.
Tyson went into decline after Rooney left his corner, he was amazing up to the Spinks fight and was set to become the greatest heavyweight of all-time, D`Amato was a genius.
The myth/misconception that James Toney was being badly outboxed and shutout by Michael Nunn before he landed a miracle punch to win. The fight was far more competitive, and Toney was coming on strong for the previous 3 rounds or so. Nunn was ahead widely on the cards because the fight was in Iowa I was about to post this. Ali was landing the clean shots to the head throughout the fight. He did take some hard, winging body shots, and some hard shots upstairs, but the majority of the clean punches were landed by Ali. He landed the clean shots to the head in round 1 in the middle of the ring, and also landed them as soon as he went to the ropes in the 2nd.
