The one thing modern boxing nailed is the World Boxing Super Series. In a sport where there often is no defined champion, the Super Series not only matches 6-8 very good fighters against each other, it truly defines the champion in the division. The lineal title has some value, and so does Ring Magazine, but for my money the winner of the World Boxing Super Series has the most value.
I agree! Starting with the Super Middleweight tournament that Ward won. I have enjoyed every one of them. The best fighting the best, alphabet titles be dammed. I'm really looking forward to the conclusion of the latest Cruiserweight tournament. I still think the first super middleweight tournament was the best because unlike the more recent ones, it wasn't single elimination and even if a fighter lost a fight, the still could make up points in the next matchup to stay in the tournament. Not to mention Ward (for sure), Froch, and Kessler will all be in the hall of fame eventually.
I don't think Kessler did enough to make the hall of fame. I'd like to see a World boxing super series every four year per weight class, our sport would be so much better if this happened.
POTUS, What does Joyce or Hrgovic have to do with this thread? Hrgovic was just 20 years old for this match by the way. Joyce a man at age 27. Joyce might have been better back them Hrgovic has improved a lot since this 2013 match,
I think they both will get in eventually but they might have to wait awhile just like Julian Jackson and Donald Curry had too. Both were excellent fighters that were clearly a notch below Ward and Calzaghe.
I wasn't talking about Froch, but he did beat Kessler. So did Ward and Calzaghe. Kessler lost his three biggest fights. I don't he did quite enough to make the hall of fame, which might have some issues recognizing the super middleweight division. I see him as a very good fighter, not a great one.
