The ideal match up of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not going to happen or at least it is not very likely to happen in the very least anytime soon. We all have our opinions as to why this is. I have expressed mine and am likely to do so again. However I am not trying to start a thread about that match up. From the begaining the odds were against the fight ever being made. It is rare that the two best boxers in the sport face each other.
The last time this happened was when Jones faced Toney. Before thwat it was Whitaker/Chavez. Before that it was Leonard/Hearns and befre that it was the two match ups between Leonard and Duran. My point is that theae match ups are rare in boxing. It takes the right cercimstances such as being in the same or close to the same weight class. Both egos need to be satistified as well. Boxing should never count on this kind of match up.

There are however rel match ups this upcoming year that boxing should put its full effort behind. Sadly it seems that only boxing fans know about these fights.
    Jan 29.
Devon Alexander (21-0-0, 13 KOs) vs. Timothy Bradley (26-0-0, 11 KOs)

The best 2 light welterweights in the world meet up in a someone's "0" must go fight. This may not be a blood and guts fight. However it should be a very competive match up. With a lot of boxing skills by both men.

    Feb 19.
Fernando Montiel (43-2-2, 33 KOs) vs. Nonito Donaire (23-1-0, 15 KOs)

This may be as close to a #1 and #2 match up as we are going to get this year. Donaire is ratted by the Ring at 5 and Montiel is 7. This is a classic skills Donaire vs power Montiel match up.

    May 7.
Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) vs. Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs)

Any fight with Manny Pacquiao is a super fight. You don't need to be a fan of his to understand that. Mosley has his fans too. Yea it is not the Pacquiao fight we all want to see. However this should be a great match up. Not as good as Pacquiao and Mayweather but very good none the less.

These three fights taking place over the first half of 2011 deserve the best possible promotion. All are 24/7 worthy match ups. These are the fights that sports fans not just boxing fans should be talking about before they happen not just after they happen.

There have all ways been great match ups and fights it is too bad that only boxing fans seem to know about them.

    Good thread !

Montiel-Donaire is my top upcoming fight. We'll get a chance to see Donaire against top opposition again (it was time...) and a Montiel fight is almost always a good fight.

I agree with the thread OP we shouldn't let one or two potential matchups eclipse boxing. I don't think Bradley-Alexander or Pacquiao-Mosley are exciting matchups (Alexander got exposed by Kotelnik and Mosley doesn't deserve a shot at Pacquiao) but Montiel-Donaire is a super fight indeed I don't understand why so many people are sleeping on it. Also Froch-Johnson is gonna be a FOTY candidate.

    Yeah, good thread...

I am looking forward also to Alvarez's career in 2011, I think they are gonna push him fast and we might see berto at the end of 2011 with Alvarez...

That nonito fight is gonna be sick! I am still thinking if I should go or not.... If tickets are available 1 week before... I'll probably go
